Change is something we all either hate or love. I’m not one for change or at least change that makes a difference in my routine or life. Change can be good and amazing if your life is in a rut. People talk to me all the time about how they are in a rut with their home. Some say I just don’t know where to start. I want my family room to be special and a place we love to be in but I have no clue where to begin. For me I like to start with finding that one piece that makes me smile. It doesn’t always have to be the largest piece in the room or the most expensive. It only needs to speak to you and pull at you heart. Lately I have come across a few pieces that most wouldn’t even think of making a center piece of your decor. I on the other hand grabbed them up and Blue Happy them.
I love a chair that makes a statement. It’s not about new and perfect as it is about falling in love. I feel in love with this 1970 gold crushed velvet chair when I saw it at a Shaw estate sale. When I found it the legs were old brown stain that were all scratched up. I painted the legs with Pure Pewter from Chalk Country Paint and sanded them back. I didn’t have to do really anything to the cloth it was in perfect condition. I wiped it down and just like that a beautiful chair is restored. I placed it in my booth at Cameron’s Trading Company. I paired it up with a few matching painted items. This table and wine cart are a perfect partnership. Now it’s ready for its new home or maybe someones first apartment at college.
You all know that Rusty by Design Auction is one of my very favorite places to find great items. I bought this chair a few auctions back and just had to save it. It also was surrounded by old brown stained wood frame. The fabric not so up dated but with a little chalk paint and Blue Happy shabby chic sanding it’s ready to live on. I placed a lite green pillow in the chair to pull out the green in the leaf of the rose print. Placed in the bedroom or family room this chair calls you to sit for a while. It’s like getting a hug by the arms of the chair that seem to wrap around you.
It’s all about just starting. Sometimes we need to just declutter the room and start with a clean slate. You don’t have to spend tons of money to get the results you are looking for. Shopping can be just about from any store including shopping your own home for things you love. Paint is a wonderful magical thing if you find the perfect piece to paint. You only need to find that great piece that speaks to you and gives you that I wanna be home feeling.
