Okay I know I come up with some pretty crazy redo’s sometimes. I even get eye rolls and looks from Greg sometimes. He doesn’t have to say anything but I read his face really well. This redo is a redo to the already redone. It was a table I bought at an estate sale over a year ago. I loved the design in the wood but I guess no one else did because it went to Waco and sat there and sat there and set there. I agree it’s a small table but I guess the design was a little grandma for those youngsters in Waco. Now how cool would this be on a covered patio or in your home in front of a comfortable sitting space.
I didn’t have to do much but redo the top. At one point in its life there was a piece of glass on top that was attached to the beautiful trim. It’s called a serving table because the top lifted off to serve with. When I got this piece in my hands I attached the trim to the table. I didn’t want it to be removable because the glass was no longer there. This worked great for the new look I’ve given it.
It set it in my studio for a few weeks and I pondered over just what to do. Nothing came to mind because I’ll be honest I had moved on from this piece, but here it was in my studio again. I decided to tile the top with random tiles I had in my studio but no matter how I tried it never seemed to settle well with me. I wanted to make sure this piece found a home so I had to make sure what I did made this piece whole again. So off to Lowes to look for tile. I was disappointed nothing was speaking to me. So back to the drawing board but then as I started to leave the flooring department there it was samples of wood flooring. The colors were perfect and installing this would be a breeze.
I used wood glue to attach the wood tiles to the top of the table. I didn’t need to grout because I butted the tiles up next to each other. Once it was dry I gave it 3 coats of clear protection to seal it. It stunning! I love the way the wood tiles gave it an updated look. The beautiful carved legs and framed trim are now a feature instead of old fashion. The ornate frame around the edge makes the wood tile pop. The wood gives the piece the texture it needed to make a difference.
Sometimes when I try to force a piece it only hinders it. I can’t see the big picture because I’m only looking two feet in front of my idea. If I step back and let things just happen they do happen. Maybe that is how we should all look at life. When things aren’t happening and you feel stumped look further down the road and see the bigger picture.
This piece will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Texas this Friday. The entire Blue Happy Living booth will be filled with all new items. The prices are perfect, the colors are full of life and if you dare gets some chalk paint for your own redo.
