Refreshed and New

March 18, 2019

My blog is all about restoring things. I believe there isn’t anything that can’t be restored if the right effort is put into it. Restoring myself and my health at points has proven to be a challenge. I’m a believer and my faith, prayer and trust in God will always carry me through anything. I believe even the bad and not so pretty moments in your life always have a lesson to teach. Over the past week my faith and trust was put to the test. I found myself weak at points and angry at other points. I never once stopped praying. I waited patiently for an answer and that answer came this afternoon in the form of a great blessing. God is good in every moment of life.

This time of year spring in Texas is most of the time in full bloom. This year spring has struggled to come as winter tried it’s hardest to pull her under. I’ll be honest I’ve let a few things pull me under these last few weeks and the cold weather didn’t help matters. I’ve been slow at letting spring come, slow at letting the regrowth of life happen and slow at letting things go. Today I’ve finally pulled myself up out of my funk to move forward. It felt so good to refresh a few things around my house. I started with my front porch and my empty cold flower pots.

I don’t change the flower pots each year just what is in them. Although this year I’ve added a new container that I’m so in love with. A friend of mine artist Charla of Junk Punk Haus has taught me plant containers don’t have to be store bought or perfect. The planter is just important as the plant inside of it. She uses the most amazing unusual containers that give such character to the plants. At the end of last year she inspired my front porch this year. She didn’t even know she did. I arrived at Doc Holliday’s one day and for my birthday she had filled an old blue roasting pan with succulents. I loved it so much I filled my front porch this year with more succulents. I love the roasting pan and the texture the succulents lend to my porch. I can’t wait to find other containers at thrift stores, garage sales and estate sales to fill with more greenery. I’d love to find old toys, dishes that remind me of my grandmother or what about beautiful shoes. I think I like that idea the best.

Spring is a time to renew your porch, pots and planters. Spring is also a time to renew your faith and love for that faith. I’m overwhelmed with the blessing I received today. I’m well aware that I need to just let things go and enjoy the moment I stand in. Thinking of the past or to far ahead can sometimes hold you back from blooming in life.

    1. That blue roaster spoke to me to come home to you! Winter is necessary (yikes!) for some things to die, only to be reborn in spring. Refresh and renew for your growth this year!
