Giving Up

January 14, 2019

There are days I just wanna pull the cover over my head and say I’m out you people carry on without me. Wouldn’t that be great if we could really just say “peace out” and walk away. Not the responsible thing to do or is it the reality of life. On those days I just put a smile on my face and roll with the punches of the day. Giving up isn’t really in my souls zipper. I might have to fight a little harder on those days to keep my head above water but fight I do and win I will. We pick our battles and what to fight over in life. Trying to take it all on only makes you weak and your sure to lose the battle. Taking the time to first make a plan is what draws out the success.

In the beginning of this Blue Happy thing when I set out to restore a piece I was all over the place. I would have 4 or 5 projects going. These projects would all be in different colors, needing different tools and there was nothing cohesive about any of the pieces. Over the past few years I’ve learned to organize creatively so that I’m not chasing so many projects in so many directions. It has brought a lot of peacefulness to my studio.

On a regular basis I find a piece on FB market place. I make arrangements to pick it up. Sometimes I get the story of why they are selling the piece and sometimes I never know why. Recently I answered an ad about a farm table and 4 chairs. It was in great shape so I bought it and took it to my studio. The table was a beautiful farm table style but the chairs not so much. They were a bit more mid-century modern and really didn’t mix with the style I was going for. I took the saw to the backs of the chairs and off they came. Greg said how could you do that to those beautiful chairs. Well it’s easy, when I have a plan in my head nothing else will do but to cut them off.

The couple that owned the table had started a restored project on it. They had painted the leaf of the table in a light taupe with a white over lay. Not sure why they stopped the restored process but they did. Now it’s in my studio. I gave it a full paint out on the chair base and the table base. I included the leaf so that it would match perfectly. After the 2 coats of Pure White from Chalk Country Paint dried I started working on the top. It took a while but I got all the yellowish stain removed with my round sander. Before I sanded it I prepared the bench seats to be stained as well. Once every thing was sanded and wiped down it was time to stain the table top and benches. I like to give the stain at least 24 hours to dry before I seal it. I always us Defender from Chalk Country to make sure it’s good and sealed for everyday wear and tear.

Giving up on something is one of the most heavy feelings you will ever have. You never know what tomorrow brings so if you give up today you will never know the end of the story. I’m a fighter and I love to win so giving up like I said isn’t in the zipper of my soul. It’s who I am and how I choose to be. You can change clothing, makeup, hair and all the other material things about yourself but your soul isn’t up for change.
