Go into any furniture store and really take a look at what is out there. It’s all pretty much simple compared to furniture made years ago. Today we all reach for simple lines that are clean and free from fuss. I love the hunt for the piece of furniture that is different. That piece that has that something special with character.
When I arrive at an estate sale I get this rush and a flutter in my stomach. Greg and I split off most of the time at the sale. He hits the garage I hit the bedrooms. I have a hard rule NO bathroom shopping EVER! It just grosses me out to see personal items on sale. Greg checks them out and brings out anything he thinks I might wanna see. Bathrooms are a great place to find jewelry boxes. A few weeks ago my friend Leann texted me. She was running a sale that had lots of Blue Happy items. I arrived and first up I saw this great chest with lots of character. Lots of interesting edges that would be beautiful painted out and sanded back. So I did just that and it came out amazing. It is now sitting at Junky Monkey in Waco waiting on a new home to shine as a restored life piece.
So many treasures can be found at garage sales, estate sales and trash trolling. I showed you a small shelf awhile back that I bought. I painted it all up for my sister-in-law, it was her birthday after all. She needed something small for her guest bathroom. It was a simple old brown shelf that really no one wanted anymore. After a little Chalk Country Paint love it now has a new purpose for her home. I love the way she is using it to store things in a decorative way.
I found a dresser advertised on the Facebook market place for only $10. I drove out of my way to pick it up but oh how it was worth it. This dresser had great bones and detail to boot. I wasn’t crazy about the reddish stain from the 50″s but a little paint would take care of that. To give it a more updated look I also changed out the hardware. The black hardware gives it a more farmhouse look that so many are looking for.
Refreshing our homes doesn’t have to cost lots of money. You can make a plan for the entire house or just one room. We all need that place to go and feel comfortable. Our homes are the place of gather and rest so we should make it a place to love. Thank about it if you could change one room or one piece of furniture what would that be. For me it would be a curio cabinet I have in my guest room. I would love to give it a shabby chic farm look. Maybe on a rainy day in the spring.
