I came across a ratty little dresser at the last Doc Holiday’s sidewalk sale. It needed repairs to the drawers, lots of stains that weren’t part of the character and it needed a makeover in a bad way. Something about this little dresser called my name. It spoke to me so I had to buy it. Most people would look at this piece and say oh my why? What in the world would make you want to save this piece. I’ll tell you because I love a good fight and this little beauty needed a fight.
It really didn’t have much going for it in the lines of character so I had to give it character. I started with a dramatic color from Chalk Country Paint called Pure Pewter. It gave it just what I wanted but it needed a little bit of a surprise to make you smile. I went inside to make that happen painting out the drawers with turquoise. That gave it that little surprise that you don’t expect. I salvaged the wood knobs but a couple of them were chipped. I found these great carved knobs in my stash and they worked perfect for the top draw. The new hardware added the drama I was looking for. Sanding back and clear coating gave it the finishing touch. Restored back to life for any home. What a great piece for a bathroom needing extra storage, or in a bedroom to store those extra items you need. I also love the idea of putting this in your mud room to store gloves, scarves and other items you only use ever so often. Finally if I still had kids at home I would love this in a walk in closet to store under garments and socks. How would you use it? I’m sure you could come up with so many other ways I haven’t thought of. This much restored dresser is now in my booth at Doc Holiday’s for only $89.
I love all the treasure you can find at Doc Holiday’s sidewalk sales. I look forward to it every month and looking at all the extra treasures the dealers bring out. I can always count on Mrs. Billy to bring that item that I just have to have. Junk Punk Haus along with Love and Rust always have that unexpected treasure you can’t live without. The next sale is December the 8th 10-6. Rain or shine the sale will happen and there will be treasure to be had. Come see us at 113 S Birmingham Wylie.
