Backed Into A Corner

June 14, 2018

Sometimes everything in life isn’t perfect. Duh…….that would be most of the time if your really honest. These days my to do list is more like if I get to it list. Every day I get up start the first project and somewhere about the 3rd or 4th thing on the list I’m off in a different direction. I’m trying to learn to go with the flow but this off track thing isn’t my thing. There are days I feel backed into a corner and the only way out is to give in to going with the flow.

As I’m refreshing my home this summer I try to use what I have but sometimes you need something for just that one spot. Recently someone told me they needed a corner piece for a cottage they rent out in McKinney. If you are looking to rent in McKinney let me know I’ll pass on the info. This cottage is really sweet and cozy. Okay back to the corner piece she needed. It just so happened a friend of mine on her dog walking job found a corner piece in someones trash. Again if you need a dog walking or sitting let me know she is good at her job as well. When she put it on my door it was a mess but it was restorable.

I had to get the handyman Greggo involved in this one. The top of the table was toast and had to be replaced. The bottom piece although pretty in its day was damaged beyond repair. We decided not to replace it because it only served as decorative and not supportive. I did my shabby chic thing but first I had to stain the new piece on top. If I wouldn’t have it would have shown when I sanded back the edges. Now it looks like it’s always been there. I had to give that complete dry time so when I painted it Crisp Collar from Chalk Country Paint it didn’t mix into the paint. Once that was all done and the paint was dry I sanded back the edges and a few more spots. Two coats of Defender and it was almost done. There appears to be 3 drawers but really only the middle one works and the other two are decorative. I had to replace the wooden knob because it was split down the middle. I used an old vintage cup handle that was very ornate.

In the end the corner piece turned out to be a trash to treasure after all. It truly amazes me what people toss out on trash day. I’m loving all the finds and all the friends I have supporting me in this journey of restored life. Dig deep into what you have. Try to recycle it back into your home because it’s the chic thing to do these days.
