I heard someone say I hate summer and having a pool. WHAT! Why such hateful words to say about the most magical time of the year. I ask why would you say such a thing? Her words are what I hear a lot from even my own daughter. Towels from swimming, playing in the water park on the floor of the bathroom or dropped on the patio. I know this well because I had that issue.
You can never have enough towel hooks in your bathroom or on your patio if you have a pool. We have had a pool in our back yard for the past 20 plus years in both houses. I remember thinking I just picked up towels where did these come from. Hanging them up from the morning bath or swim made it so they could be reused and that meant less laundry. Less laundry was like winning the lottery for me. I’m sure the rest of you mommy’s feel the same. I don’t have a photo from my home in Lucas but I did get smart and had hooks galore. It made life at the pool so much better.
You can go to your local home decor store or craft store and spend big bucks or you can open your eyes to what you have. On my patio I have the back of an old Adirondack chair I found in someones trash pile. I painted stars on it to go with our Americana decor. I added hooks I got from Hobby Lobby. TaDa! Now I have a place for towels right by the door going into my home. I did this 2 years ago and it has been a big help keeping the towels off the ground. This summer I plan on making a few more. With my kids having kids seems there are more towels than ever.
I put this towel hook together in about an hour. I used an old board I bought at Junky Monkey. If you go to Waco you must go to this store. She fills the inside with ready to buy decor items, refurbished furniture and clothing. Make sure you go out back and look at all her treasures to make things. This is a great source for gathering things for your DIY projects. I bought this old board from her because it had that old worn look. I did sand off the chippy paint and sealed it with Chalk Country Defender. I spray painted the silver basket black and attached it to the board along with the hooks. Both the basket and the hooks I already had so they are now repurposed. How cute this will be at the pool or in your guest bathroom. The basket could be used for holding sunscreen and bug spray by the pool. How nice in your bathroom if your guest found hand creme and body lotion just for their visit. Not only is it good for towels but it could also be used by a back door to hang your bag and a place for your keys. So many ideas!
Trash to treasure is more than that. Making something from what you already have is the smartest way to decorate your home and save our landfills from over flow. Keep your eye open, look at what others toss out, you never know you just might find that treasure you have been looking for.
