It happens every week on trash day. People pile and discard what the don’t want onto the side-walk ready for trash pick up. I see some of the most amazing things that is such a waste when seen as no longer needed or wanted. People call and text me all the time about furniture they see on the side of the road. I’m so thankful for this information I jump and run to save it. I’ve said it many times all furniture can be restored, reused, redone and make new again with little to no effort. You can transform your home with paint, sand paper and clear finish.
I have a friend Nancy who is a dog walker by profession. While on a walk she came across this sweet little table just waiting to be restored back to life. Most people would look at it and think no way this is trash. It wasn’t real wood and the finish bubbled and peeled from the moisture. I saw it as a challenge. I was so happy she grabbed it up and put it on my front porch. So grateful for all the trash trolling friends I have out there looking out for Blue Happy.
When something isn’t real wood water damage can be the death of the piece. I had to do some sanding to balance out the top of the piece because it had bowed up on the edges. My trusty old scraper took away the bubble spots and removed all the peeling top coat finish. On the front of the table there was decorative wood trim. Three piece to be exact but the center was bowed and coming off. If it wouldn’t have been bowed I would have just popped it off and re-glued it back on. That was a no go because it was so water damaged. I just made the removal of it part of the worn design. Now that is was all ready to accept its new paint color I decided it to restore it to a brighter life than before, so turquoise it will be. Two good coats of this bright restored life color and it was ready for the shabby chic sand back. I went deep with the sanding so that the stain color came through and contrasted with the bright paint color. Because the table had so much water damage and sanding to correct it I gave it three coats of Defender to seal the wood and protect it.
For me pieces like this are a challenge I so welcome. They don’t have to be the best of the best or real wood for that matter they just need to be saved. This little table can brighten up any entryway or used as an accent table in a family room. My favorite idea is to make it a coffee bar in your breakfast area or even in the master bedroom. Doesn’t matter where it’s used what matters is it has been saved and restored to life.
This table is at Doc Hollidays 113 S Birmingham Wylie waiting on a new home.
