At heart I’m a true shabby chic girl. I love everything about old, farm house and weathered. To me there is something about a piece of furniture in your home that has a story. If you are lucky you get to hear that story. If not you have to rely on your thoughts to fill in the blank. When I think about all the things my grand parents had I get so sad. Most of it was given away or trashed. I was way to young to understand or appreciate them. Oh to go back and redo that moment when ask do you want anything.
This week on my quest to relax I found myself in all kinds of treasure stores. My blood is Blue Happy and I will always tour these types of stores. Resting or working they make me happy. In Galveston there are so many antique shops. One was an old hotel from the 1800’s. The upstairs was pretty much left alone. The numbers were still over the door as when they were rented for the night. The owner used each room to display different groups and styles of furniture. One room was like a dream for me filled with every kind of wood and metal container you could think about. I mean really y’all I almost shut that door and locked myself in.
If you know me as a teacher you know the next room stopped me in my tracks. It was over filled with every kind of wood chair. Some with carved wood and others with interested designs. Oh to have this room full of chairs in January for our art chair project.
Two rooms in the old hotel gone antique store tempted me to wanna cheat on my shabby chic roots. The clean lines with bold color pushed on my OCD. I was captured by the flow of the structure and the simplicity of it. I wanted to get out of there because my creativity started to see a different side I haven’t explored, but I stood there thinking maybe my creativity had a double personality. Something to think about just maybe Blue Happy will add mid century modern pieces in the near future.
Off to our next adventure during spring break 2018. We are headed to Lake Charles Louisiana on Tuesday morning.
