Furniture from the past was made very well. There isn’t much furniture in the stores today that has longevity. Most of it is made with veneer and press wood. Don’t get me wrong there is some really good furniture out there but it will cost you a pretty penny. Most people change-up the decor in their homes so often it’s not cost worthy to buy the really good stuff. I love to find the piece that are old and made well but the design has served it time. With a little TLC, paint and updating these old pieces can once again be part of the home for years to come.
At an estate sale Greg found this beauty for next to nothing. It’s been sitting in our garage for at least 3 months as I work through many other projects. To be honest I wasn’t sure what to do with it. When I did pull it out I got a bit of a surprise. I thought it had 6 regular size drawers. This dresser is the best ever for storage. The two bottom drawers are double size and deep. In most drawers all you can store is about 3 pairs of jeans but not it this big boy you could pile at least 5 or 6 pairs of jeans no problem. I mean really who doesn’t need more storage that is easy to use.
This dresser was in excellent shape put I wanted to do a little bit different paint job on it. I used one of the new colors in the Chalk Country line called Buff. It’s got a sandy gray look to it so it’s neutral enough to go with most any decor. I didn’t brush on the paint I used a roller to get a really smooth look. I let it have a full 24 hour dry time because rolling it makes it thicker. Before I sanded I added several stencils to the top but not to heavy because I knew I would be sanding them back off. I not only sanded back the edges I sanded the entire body as well. It removed paint as if it had been used for many years with this paint treatment on the dresser. Most of the stencil work was removed to a point of you can see it but it’s almost gone. Love this look because it makes the mind wonder what it looked like new.
I put all the original hardware back on because it was in great shape. I finished it off with 2 coats of Defender to protect it from every day use. This dresser stands strong and sturdy and is ready for many years of life in your home. It will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham by 3:00 on Friday 3/30. Come by and see the many other new items I will be showing. I hope your Easter Holliday is full of love and family.
