Saying Goodbye

March 21, 2018

In every part of your life things will come and go as will people. Sometimes you reach a point that you are so ready to go you can’t wait. Other times you reach a point knowing you need to go but can’t find the words to say goodbye. I’m an all in person. I love my hardest, give of myself until I’m empty and saying goodbye to something or someone I love is next to impossible. These day’s I’m not the one saying goodbye it’s Greg. You would think that he was saying goodbye to his best friend or a family member, but no it’s his 1970’s stereo.

Yes I said 1970’s stereo. A few years ago when we moved into this house there was this odd room off the kitchen. It had a wet bar, built-in shelves and a bank of windows with a great view of the pool. Just off that room was Greg’s home office so he can have this room too. We took out the wet bar and made it dry, filled the room with things he loved and put in a large table with 10 chairs great for poker. Still something was missing or so Greg thought. While on vacation he bought an old 1970’s stereo for $23. I’m not kidding and I was so mad because it was a monster. I gave in but only if I got to redo the old stereo and Greg gave in to me. So blue it became and fun it was.

Now 7 years down the road I have to admit we all have enjoyed that old stereo many times. It had an 8-track, radio and a record player. All of which has stopped working and it’s time to say goodbye. Greg was sad as we rolled it out into the garage where it will be pulled apart to salvage the wood, hardware and stereo parts. I’m pretty sure I saw a tear.

He wasn’t sad long as he found a new/old stereo this past weekend at an estate sale. Thank goodness it’s much smaller but has all the same features. Of course I’m redoing it but this time I went in a totally different direction. A little farmhouse meets black metal. Make sure you come back and read Thursdays blog and see the new stereo.
