No school today so what’s a girl to do when she needs some much-needed time away. No I didn’t go to Waco although I wanted to go. Mondays aren’t the best day to go shopping down Waco’s way. Most of my favorites are closed on Monday. The Silo’s are open but not all my junk stores. I spent the day shopping around the Dallas area and I have a new treasure place. I’ll be shopping this store every week to get some great items to redo. I got lucky and Greg spent his lunch with me at this new store. It’s deep in the heart of Dallas and that means interstate driving. I hate interstate driving in the city so I had a handsome driver for at least an hour today. We also hit a few Goodwill stores on the way back home. Those are always a standard on my weekly shopping list.
You have all heard me go on and on about Rusty by design auction. The owners of Rusty’s their son Shane is the one that owns this new treasure of a store. He is in the beginning stages of taking it over. At the present the sign on the outside of the store says “The New Thrift Store”. It will soon be re-signed as “Hidden Treasures Thrift”. It’s located 1515 S Buckner Blvd. Dallas Texas. I’ve worked with the Rusty family for many years and they do everything top-notch. I’m looking so forward to when he has completely revamped the store. Today I got lots of great items to redo. All kinds of wood items that will be restored to live a new life all farm-housed up.
Decorating your home on a budget doesn’t mean you have to wait and save to buy new. These type of stores are full of great items that just need a little TLC and or paint. My home is full of items from thrift stores, garage sales, auction and estate sale. Oh and lets not forget the trash trolling for treasures. I can’t even imagine buying new these days. I would rather save my money for a weekend trip and time away with my hubby. Sometimes you only need to clean an item up to make it work in your home. Not all of the items you find in these stores need a complete redo.
When I shop I always have a list of things I want or need. It never fails everything on the list seems to show up sooner or later. I can’t tell you how many times Greg and I have had a great laugh over finding something we thought we never would find. When we moved into our now home we needed bathroom trash cans. As we left the house on a Saturday morning I had 2 list. One for Target and one for garage/estate sales. On the Target list was the trash cans. At the first Estate sale we stopped at we found 4 trash cans that were like brand new. Two had the tags still on them. They weren’t the cheap cans I was gonna buy, they were the ones with the foot press to open the lid. Also they were stainless steel. “SCORE”!!!!! If I took you through my home and pointed out all the treasure I bought at thrift stores or sales you would be shocked. I get lots and lots of compliments on my home and how beautiful it is.
It you allow yourself to look at this in a different way it can become a fun thing to do on the weekends. It takes time, but I wouldn’t trade this weekend time with Greg for anything. We have so much fun and sometimes we find treasure that we didn’t even know we needed. Sharing this with your kids will teach them to save, shop wise and have all they need or want for half the price or less.
