What I Carry behind My Smile

January 18, 2018

We all walk into our day with lots of junk in our head and heart. Most days I’m pretty even kill with not much on my mind but what is at hand for the day. I said this year I was going to live life as if it were the last year of my life. Live as if there is an expiration date of December 31st 2018. I’ve put a few things into action and things are moving forward. I’ve followed through with plans for Blue Happy and with my personal life. I also said I was going to let a few people know how I felt, remove toxic people and not hold back. This part of my 2018 plan has proven to be the hardest part. That is what I carry each day in my heart how to detox my life of people without hurting other connected. Some of these things and people I need to detox are from so many years ago.  Some don’t even exist anymore.  I have a tender heart and even thought these people are toxic I don’t want to hurt them or others connected.  Lots of prayer, thought and soul-searching begins now.

My brain runs none stop every day and every minute I’m awake. I see something in the trash my head starts to run with ideas and ways to save or change it. I see something that is disorganized and my head starts to play out ways to build something or change something that will make it better. It’s always something going on in my head and most of the time more than 2 or 3 things at a time. Lately I’m obsessed with all the small things in my life. In every room of my home there are all these small things that are important to me each day but they are everywhere. Next to my bed I have a large nightstand/desk where I keep all the things I need in bed. It also serves as my blogging space. So you can imagine all the little things I have. Lets make a list. There is my note pad, iPad, vitamins, glasses, pen, phone cords, hard candy, chap stick, dog treats and so on. You get my point I’m sure. I could go into every room of my house and find small things that need to have a place to land until they are needed. How do you fix this issue? One word “Trays” yes trays will fix all this mess around your house.

In my stash of things I have lots and lots of trays waiting to be restored. I picked 2 of those trays to give completely different makeovers to. The cool thing is I didn’t have to do much at all.

The first tray is great with its square shape and beautiful metal look in silver. I didn’t want to cover up that silver so I added a stencil in Santa’s Coal from Chalk Country paint. Once it dried really well I used my sander to take most of it back off. This gives it an old look as if it’s worn off over the years.  A couple of coats of clear finish sealed and protected the new design. I can imagine this tray with someones bible and note pad, a favorite pen and maybe some chocolate sitting by a favorite chair.

Oh my goodness the second tray is so my favorite. I love the shape and old style. The fruit was maybe okay in yesteryear but today it needs a beautiful color with a little twist. I left the black on the edges and painted out the inside with Polished Turquoise. I waited for that to dry and sanded back the edges for that shabby chic look. Now for the twist I found these “Architectures” decals. How cool is this dress form for a beautiful tray you keep in your bathroom or dressing area. I applied the decal then gave the tray a few good coats of Defender clear finish in satin. It’s all ready for makeup, jewelry or anything else that is small and seems to be all over your space.

I bought both of these trays at a thrift store for next to nothing. It only took a tiny bit of time to restore them with an updated look for today’s home. Go find yourself a treasure in a thrift store or garage sale. Come see my booth at Doc’s and grab your favorite Chalk Country paint. I have 8oz jars in almost all the colors we offer. Or if you just want to get going on organizing both these trays are already in my booth at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie. I hope your weekend is Blue Happy and organized.
