Sometimes You Just Wanna Have Fun

January 15, 2018

Don’t get me wrong I love what Blue Happy has brought to our lives. Never the less we are so busy that every moment of our week, weekend and month are planned out. I do some kind of redo almost every day. If I’m not sanding, painting or repairing I’m out picking and trash trolling. Not to mention I’m still a teacher, grandmother, mother and wife. Ever so often I wake up and think I wanna do something fun today. Something that is just artsy and whimsical. Sunday was one of those days. We had the task of going to get a new dish washer. Not a fun thing for me at all. They are such a utilitarian need for your home that provide no fun, no beauty and are way to expensive for the job it does. It was a job that had to be done so off to Lowes we go.

On the way I noticed an estate sale sign and convinced Greg to pass Lowes and see what the sale had. We got there just as they put out the 50% off sign. Oh joy for me. I think I skipped all the way to the door. I found lots and lots of items. So I started a pile on the hold shelf at the front. Greg started to give me side eyes as the pile grew. Only because he wanted to get to Lowes and he knew I was on a roll.

One of the greatest things I found today was doll furniture. Years ago when Heather was born I managed to escape from my childhood home a doll house my daddy had built. I gave it to Heather to play with and she loved it for many years. I saved it hoping someday she would have a little girl and I would give it to her. Well Scarlett is here and will be 2 later this year. I’m already working on it. It’s in farm-house style with a big front porch. I’m going to “Chip and Jo” the inside including shiplap on the walls. It will be something that is set up high in her room until she is a bit older. Someday she will love it and play with it just like her mommy did when she was a little girl.

Now for the fun project I wanted to do. I found this little white rabbit basket. It’s all made of wood and as you can see the sides are cut out like rabbits. I decided it would be a Mr and Mrs rabbit basket. I couldn’t wait to get it home and start on it. I started with cleaning it good, because it was nasty. Once it dried I used  Turquoises on the basket slates and Crisp Collar on the bunnies. I piled on the sticky felt where I could and used glue to put on the rest.  Google eyes were a perfect match for this project.  The eye lashes on the Mrs. Rabbit make her smart and pretty.  I didn’t do any sanding back just kept it simple with Defender clear finish.  Once worn out and ready for the trash it’s now ready for years of Easter egg hunt fun.

I had my fun and it made me happy to restore something that most would have discarded.  Take the time to go and look at thrift stores, garage sales, auctions and estate sales.  You never know just what you will find to restore and make new again. Now I guess it’s back to work on Tuesday for more Blue Happy items for the blog and booth.

This sweet basket will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Wednesday 1/17 by noon.
