Wanna make a big change in your favorite room of your home. You don’t have much of a budget so new furniture is out the door. Let me show you just how I made a big change with nothing more than an afternoon, 1 qt. of chalk paint and a small piece of fabric.
I started with this small breakfast table and 2 chairs. The table was so cute and had great bones. It was a little worn and out dated because of its stain, scratches and old style look. When I purchased the table it was without chairs. This table is meant for a small space. In its glory day’s it had a leaf that extended it for large family dinners and many chairs for seating. Over the years who knows what happened to the leaf. There might have been 2 or 3 of them lost over time of this piece being passed down.
I didn’t have chairs that worked with the table. Trust me I drug out all my chairs in storage but the chairs were to tall, to wide or just looked goofy. So I started looking at thrift stores, auction and any where I could but nothing. Then I got a message from a friend asking me if I was interested in 2 chairs she no longer wanted. I said “yes Please” then off to pick them up from her drive way. I didn’t realize it when I picked them up they were the perfect chair for this table. I have the most amazing people in my life.
I wanted this set to be simple with no drama redo. I picked “Santa’s Coal” from the Chalk Country Paint line. It’s a great color that gives good coverage so one coat is all that was needed on the table base and the chairs. I sanded back the edges on the table and chairs and finished with a coat of Defender. The top of the table was sanded back to its raw base and stained with dark walnut. I gave the top of the table 2 coats of Defender for protection. The seats of the chairs I refinished with a scrape piece of burlap that had a chevron print.
Because I had to work on this table during a busy time of the year I used a timer to log my time. Adding all my time up I did this redo in 4 hours and 23 minutes total. If I would have had a good free afternoon I could have gotten it done in one afternoon and redecorated my room in no time at all. It’s that easy to make a change to your home. Buying new isn’t always the answer nor is it the best thing for staying in budget.
This table and chair set is already in my booth at Doc Holliday’s 113 S Birmingham Wylie Texas.
