One year ago on September the 1st I opened the Blue Happy Living Store in Doc Holliday’s Emporium. I was terrified to walk in and ask about the space available. Over and Over in my head I ran through all the reason they wouldn’t like me or my art. What if they flat-out say no we don’t want your stuff in our place of business. All I know is I drove by a place I never knew was there and for some reason I felt the need to go in and inquire. There was a very kind lady at the front counter and she showed me around. Before I knew it there was a contract in front of me and I was signing it. The only space open was a very small space 2 ft x 5 ft. Yep it was really small but I knew I could cleverly stack things to get a lot in this tiny little space.
I stacked it all up and things begin to sell out. Before I knew it I had moved to a larger space up stairs and now 1 year later down stairs I’ve more than doubled the size of that little booth that started a year ago. There isn’t a week that goes by I don’t sell many of my items. I now have a client list that I shop for things they are looking for. This has by far been one of the most rewarding things I have accomplished. It’s truly hard work everyday. I find that I have no free time and my days have to start early to get it all in. Vacations for Greg and I a made around shopping for BHL. We are always on the look out for that great little junk store on the side of the road. The best thing that has come from this is the relationship between Greg and I. We are doing this together he is the business end all the way and my handy man. I’m the creative artist with the crazy gypsy ideas. He always trust my idea’s and even if he thinks it’s crazy he smiles as he works it out.
All of this brings me to the customer appreciation party on Thursday evening at Doc’s. We had a blast with all the fellowship, food and of course Magnolia Market Silo Bakery cup cakes. Clearly the star of the show were those delicious cup cakes. First to arrive was my daughter and her sweet kiddo’s, followed by my son and his daughter. Many of my students and their mom’s came by, family and friends,my gym gals, past art students, blog readers and many that came and I met for the first time. The evening couldn’t have been complete without my bestie Karen and her husband Tim. It was all so much that I almost cried at one point. I love you all and your support is never taken for granted.
Blue Happy Living was started to help you the reader understand that your happiness is in your control. It starts with your home and making it a place to feel good and safe in. Family and friends should be important to you but nothing should be more important to you than yourself. If you find your own happiness then it will spill over into the lives of those around you.
I can’t tell you enough how much I cherish you as my friend on the journey with Blue Happy Living. I’m building this business on prayer and trust in God. I believe He is at the head of all this and will lead me down the path I’m to follow. I’m looking forward to a bigger and better year of creative designs and many redo’s, makeovers and projects.
