This makeover was really fun because I found a piece that I had no idea how in the world I would fix it. While trash trolling on the way home from the gym on a Wednesday morning things weren’t going to good. I had nothing in the back of my truck despite the fact I had gone through at least 3 neighborhoods. One last street and then home and that’s when I saw it. There was an odd shape sticking out from under a pile of yard brush. It was old and rusty just my kinda junk. I jumped out of the truck and found a trellis. It had seen better days I’m sure. It was all rusty but looked pretty okay so in the bed of my truck it went.
I had to get home and ready myself to leave for a doctor appointment with Dr. A and there was no time. I pushed it in the back gate and there it sat until 4 weeks later. When I decided to give it a makeover I found trouble. One of the finials was missing and there was a break at the bottom of the base. I’m not a welder at all and unless a welder shows up at my house this isn’t gonna be fixed. SURPRISE!! My father-in-law came to visit this past weekend and he was a welder from years ago on his job. Funny story two weeks before he got here Greg and I shopped a junk sale in McKinney. I found a finial that matched and it was only $2. Steal of a deal for this trash troller. When I bought it I had no idea he was coming. I bought it just incase my hubs or son would find the time to drag out the welder and get the job done. I think my father-in-law enjoyed welding again and helping out.
Once it cooled down from the repair I started with my creative part. I needed to block the rust using a rust block sealer. This took a lot of time and sealer. I didn’t want it to be just one color so I picked 2 of my favorite teal blues. Both of these colors were Valspar Out Door Primer and Paint. First I painted the top in the lighter teal and then started at the bottom with the darker teal. I faded the darker color up onto the lighter color so it looked ombre. I dusted the top with just a touch of the dark teal. This trellis was under a pile of trash headed to the city dump. I almost pasted it up because only the tip was sticking out. I’m so glad I stopped and gave it a chance. Thank you Burl for helping out with your welding skills.
This beauty is ready for any patio, front porch, flower bed or even in the house. How in the world would you use it in the house well lets explore that. If you have a mud room or laundry room this would be great to hang wet hooded jackets or wet pool towels on. What about an accent piece to behind a sofa or bed. You could use it for just a trellis to train a vine on somewhere in your yard. I like the idea of putting it in front of a window inside or out just to enjoy its Blue Happy beauty.
This item will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium this Friday July 21st.
