Wanna decorate your home cheap but with style. Here is the secret thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales and auctions. It is way more effort than just going to a store and buying it, but it is cheaper. The payoff is more than saving money. The payoff is sitting back and looking at it when its done. Knowing that you did this on a dime, well that’s the bonus. I love my home and that isn’t a secret that I keep. When I was newly married I thought that I had to have all matchy matchy things in my home. I thought old meant we were poor and couldn’t afford anything. It has taken years for me to arrive at a point of what makes me happy isn’t new, popular or costly.
I often redo rooms in my home not because I have all kinds of money to spend but because I love the feeling of refreshing my space. When I say redo it’s not about buying all new things and spending money. You don’t have to redo a full room to refresh things, simply organize a book shelf or table area to make it work better for your family. Moving around the furniture, adding an accent color to a wall and adding that one new piece can make the room new again. I also love a good deep clean to a room to make it smell as fresh as it looks. The feeling of accomplishment when you are done with the redo and you didn’t spend a fortune, well that is epic in my book. Recently I have made many post about all the cherry tomatoes and peppers I’m getting out of my patio garden. I post pictures of my veggies in a bowl on the counter. Recently I heard that you should store veggies in a basket that allows air from all side, bottom and top. I found the perfect veggie keeper for my center island. I was shopping at Helping Hands in Rockwall Texas, love this little jewel of a thrift store. I bought this 2 tier basket for only $2. What a screaming deal to redo my center Island and make it look refreshed. I painted it with a sage blueish green to pull in more color to the blues in my kitchen. Now my veggies get the air needed and my center island has functional beauty. Sorry Blue Happy readers this piece will not be for sale at Doc Holliday’s in the Blue Happy booth.
That same day I found a piece I see all the time on my junk shopping trips. These wood trays sometimes used in the office to keep supplies and other times used for utensils in the kitchen. Breath new life into them with a splash of color and use it in so many other places in your home. I have one I use for my make up in my vanity bathroom and it makes morning routine so much easier. I could see this at the front door with each family driver have a place to put their phone, keys or wallet. I love the idea for jewelry in your dressing area. What every your needs are to organize small items this is a great and inexpensive way to do it. Blue Happy readers you can be happy this item is for sale and is already up at Doc Holliday’s tagged and ready to go.
I said after years of thinking I had to have new, popular and costly I’ve learned that I need character, comfort and organizations. Look around your space what can you refresh? Look at the time you have and pick a refreshing project that fits that time frame. Refreshing your space makes it easier to clean, cheers you up and makes your home a place you wanna be. Have a Blue Happy day of refreshing.
