My First Piece For Lyla Mae

May 2, 2017

A few weeks ago I blogged about the dining table I did for my son and his wife. It turned out beautiful made up of so many different pieces. The cost was about $100 but the value it has already brought to their home is priceless.

He wanted to keep it a surprise from his wife so he sent her out to do a few things and we brought the table set in and set it up. Days after we set it all up I got a text from my son that warmed my heart. He has this group of friends that have been around for a while in his life. They had a dinner party and invited all of them over. They all set around the table, shared great food, laughed and toasted. The text I got came along with a photo that he took. His words made me cry “This is a very happy moment for me”. Words we all want to hear from our kids no matter their age.

Sooner than we realize their little Lyla Mae will be sitting up and in a high chair. At a shower they were given a high chair that straps to a chair. Any of the chairs I redid with the table set will work but they have cloth seats. We all know how that will come out with a baby learning to eat. The seats will be trashed and need to be replaced. I decided Lyla Mae needed her own chair, just for her. Something she could use for years to come.

I dug around in my stash of things looking for the right chair. Wouldn’t you know it I found it on the bottom of the stack in the back, but it’s perfect. This chair was on the side of the road and miss treated for years. The wood was dry, damaged and needed a good sanding.

I used Valspar project paint in the same black I used on the rest of the table. I had to tap off the seat first because I plan on staining that they same color as the top of the table. I finished it off by sanding the edges and giving it a good clear coat finish. You would think that I was finished nope. I had a very special thing to add. On the top of the back of the chair I added her name. It made it personal and she would know it was hers and no one else’s.

Doing special pieces for those I love make’s my heart so full. I did a chair for my grandson when he was about 3 he still has it and uses it. I’m gonna do one for my Scarlett as soon as I find the right chair. Maybe a special chair and vanity for her room. Using my creativity for the grand babies make me so Blue Happy.
