Coming To Terms With Reality

May 17, 2017

Sometimes we view things with a scan over look and then move on. When in reality we need to really evaluate what is in front of us before we move on. I drive around on trash trolling days scanning things that are out for the trash. I’m asking myself is it real wood, is it damaged and is there anything I can use off of it. Sometimes I judge good and sometimes I come up a big negative on the pieces I pick up.

Recently I picked up a dresser from someone, it was in great shape. It’s a really stunning piece that when refurbished will have many years of life left in it. As I started to leave her husband was putting a piece of furniture on the curb. I ask why and she said it had gotten water damage and they just wanted to get rid of it. I looked at the piece my first thought was WOW it is damaged but then I saw it. I saw it for what it was and what it could be. I ask could I have it and they were delighted to put it in the back of my truck.

Upon arriving home Greg looked at me like I was out of my mind. His commit “what in the world were you thinking this time LaTonya”. Well let me tell you the beauty I see in this piece. The outer body is toast right along with shelves but look at what was on the front of this piece that I removed once I got it home. The rest will be laid to rest in the city dump that is why it is on the curb tonight. This wood is just weeks away from complete decomposing.

I’m not sure where this piece will end up. I will say my head is flipping in all different creative directions. I’m thinking something that hangs, but maybe a trim piece added to a simple piece that will make it amazing. Who knows where this will take me. I do know it will be done over the next week or so because things like this drive me crazy until I finish them up.  If I would have passed this up I would have never had a chance to create something beautiful. Saving something from the dump isn’t always about the entire piece. It can be bits and pieces at a time. This was a true Blue Happy find.
