I often buy really odd things that to most don’t make sense. Sometimes they appear to be normal but quiet boring and old. It’s what you do with these things that makes the best “Transformation”. I think this redo is one of the best. It was an easy redo but the outcome makes this old worn out coffee table look classic shabby chic with a vintage twist.
I bought the table from rustybydesignauction.com a few months ago. I knew what I wanted to do with it I just needed to find the right old door to complete it. I bought one door and was about to use it. Even though I wasn’t totally happy with it I was gonna make it work. Then just before I started working on the table and giving it a restored life Rusty’s had an auction and there it was the perfect color, size and cost. I grabbed it for $16. Lets just say I had a party sitting at my desk. I danced the happy dance when it said I won. I sent Greg after it one Saturday morning and now I was ready to finally marry this long old coffee table with this great old door.
I didn’t need to do anything to the door. It was the perfect color, worn and aged look.I did decide to dry brush on a little of the paint color I used on the base of the table. The off white and gold splatter aren’t so in these days so it had to go. I wanted to shabby chic the base so I started with Annie Sloan “Duck Egg” chalk paint. Two coats of paint covered all the white and gold. I let it dry and then took my sander to it. Like I said I was going for a shabby chic look and I believe I conquered that look well. I gave the base 2 coats of clear finish and set it aside to dry. Putting these to pieces together only made sense to me, the door was the perfect size. The table was ugly no matter how you looked at it. With paint and the old vintage door it is restored.
I love it but I know I can’t keep it because my puppies would never forgive me for taking away their ottomans. That’s where they lay and keep watch over our home and the kitchen. This was a simple redo and the transformation well its one of a kind. Just a table and an old door can make the biggest difference in your home. Old doors are being sold every where. Some people are really proud of their old doors and charge way to much. If you give your self time you can find some great deals out there. Rustybydesignauction.com usually has one or two old doors each auction. Another great place to look for them is at any type of salvage business. You can even try Habitat Resale Stores they always have a stack of old doors.
I’m in love with this old table now and I enjoyed recreating it into a beautiful piece. I’m gonna spend my Wednesday hump day thinking of other ways to create things in a Blue Happy way.
This table will be at Doc Holliday’s Emporium 113 S Birmingham Wylie Tx on Saturday the 11th of February. There will be a sidewalk sale for shopping outside and inside. The sale starts at 10am until 6pm. I’ll have many items out front and my booth will be full inside. I hope to see your there!
