Lyla Mae’s Nursery

February 7, 2017

Well we got caught when Miss Lyla Mae decided to come 6 weeks early. We didn’t have her nursery ready. We had all the things we needed but just needed one good afternoon to put it all together. Wow what a put together on a very little budget and a bundle of love.

We are limited on what we can do to the walls because they are leasing. The room is plain vanilla with yellow paint up top and wood panel at the bottom. In between is a 4 inch wood trim piece that the people before had burnt initials into the wood ever so often. Ali hated that so I promised we would at least fix that so you couldn’t see the initials. Dallas and I painted it white. You could still see the initials a bit under the paint. I placed wood elephants, stenciled orange shapes and small circle wood designs ever so often to cover it. It turned out perfect and will match the bedding.

Now we are ready to bring in the furniture. First the crib that Greg and Dallas put together. Then the book shelf, dresser, changing table and rocker with ottoman. It filled up pretty fast but all these things will be greatly used by mommy to help take care of the baby. We hung some really sweet art done by Lyla Mae’s great-grandmother over the dresser. A wood cut out art piece in teal blue now hangs over the book shelf. Dallas hung a corner support for the stuffed animals she has already collected. A funny little zebra over by the crib finished off the wall decor. I don’t like to hang anything over the crib just incase it falls. Over protective Lollie I guess.

The book shelf will hold all the extra blankets, diapers and wipes with books on top. I also put her feeding pillow in the shelf so Ali could get to it easy without anyone having to get it for her. A folded blanket on the ottoman handy if Ali’s feet get cold in the night while feeding the baby. The changing table baskets underneath are full of things that Ali will need to reach quick. They are filled with onies, sleepers, socks, diapers, wipes and other things you will need at arms reach to take care of Lyla. One basket is full of bedding so when there is a leak its a quick change.

The cost of this sweet nursery is unbelievable. Here is the break down.
crib $20
shelf Free
Dresser $50
Change/table $50
Wall Decor Free (gift from Heather)
Chair/Ottoman $30
TOTAL $150

That is so amazing but all of it was bought through the online garage sales in my area. Ali is also being blessed by our sweet growing Scarlett. Heather keeps a basket in her closet when something doesn’t fit she puts it in the basket and I gather it when I’m over at their house. Babies grow so fast and clothing is so expensive. This will help over the years until they catch up with each other because they are only 5 months apart.

Over all we had a great day putting together this nursery. Dallas seemed so pleased when he looked at the finished room at the end of the day. I think he was so excited to bring Ali home Sunday evening when she was released. She will need to move the clothing around to fit the way it works for her but its all grouped together by likeness. Organizing the clothes will be easy.

I love and enjoy doing the nursery’s for my grandchildren. I love to save money, making it work on a budget. I’d rather spend the saved money on a family fun night and make more memories. It’s really not about the cost it’s about the love that went into making the room special. I hope you have a Blue Happy day and it’s full of memories.
