Do you remember that phrase? “Just Sit On It” My parents hated the TV show Happy Days because of all the phrases that were tossed around. If only my dad could hear what is said on TV these days he would have a stroke. I thought it was hard raising my kids with what all was allowed on TV and movies 29 years ago. It is crazy what parents have to try to work around these days raising kids. Not only TV, movies and radio but now social media. It’s a full-time job for at least one of the parents to keep an eye out making sure they are safe. Today’s parents have their work cut out for them.
I love the idea’s I see on Facebook where families shut down all electronics for a day or weekend and do family time. One family over the holiday did this and had baking contest, arts & crafts and went through old photo’s of the family. To me that sounds like an amazing day. Greg and I are both guilty of spending way to much time on electronics. We sit right next to each other on the sofa and stare at our phone’s. That is why I love our weekend trips to different Texas towns. It gets us away and we are forced to put our phones down more often. On one of our many trips out-of-town as always we arrived home really late on Sunday. We always find ourselves rushing around to get ready for the week in just a few hours before bed. One night I realized I had no fresh veggies or fruits for my week at school. I left on a mission to get what I needed. Just as I pulled out on the main road I noticed something sticking out of a trash can in the neighborhood across from mine. Well you know I had to check it out. I’m so glad I stopped because there was an amazing chair right on top. I pulled it out and off I went to the grocery store. Arriving home I realized that this was a great find. It had no issues other than loose arms. That’s an easy fix. I painted it in Annie Sloan “French Linen”. I gave it 2 coats to make sure I got good coverage. After taking the sander to it to give it the worn look I used Valspar clear coat to protect it. I pick a fabric from my stash and then changed my mind a couple of time’s. I wanted the chair to have a whimsical fun look that could work in any room. I think this fabric does just that. What do you think? Now it’s ready to just “sit on it”. Lol funny how I worked that title in, Right.
Caring for our family making sure what filters in to their lives isn’t too much. Taking time out of your week to freeze everyone’s schedule so you can make memories is so important. I promise when they get older you will not hear “remember those days we hardly talked and we looked at our phones all the time”. I promise what you will hear is “remember that time we baked cookies, watched old movies and looked at our old pictures”. Good memories are what make us who we are, it’s how family traditions are passed down and if you think about it that’s what molds the future of growing families. Thursday caught me in a long day but I still got the blog out. I hope you make some family time this weekend and memories are made. Have a Blue Happy day!!
