Sometimes It’s Better Left Alone

January 17, 2017

I’ve picked up some pretty nasty pieces of furniture on the side of the road.  Most would look at me like I’m crazy and most of the time Greg does.  Then I redo it and it turns out to be beautiful, functional and decorative.  Then Greg and others are like WOW how do you think of those things to redo and reuse it.  Really I can’t explain it, the idea’s just pop into my head and I just go for it.  Sometimes designs change mid redo but it always ends up just how my creative mind wants it to.  After all most great idea’s evolve during the process of the creativity.

Okay now it’s confession time.  I have an issue with collecting old hand-made wood tool boxes.  If I find them they must be mine, I can’t stand walking away from one in a junk store.  Big or small I love them all and want them all to be mine.  This is a big deal for me to let one out of my hands.  I found this one at rustybydesignauction, com over a year ago.  I wasn’t sure what to do to it so I put it in storage knowing one day creativity would over whelm my brain and then I would redo it.  I pulled it out the other day and sat in on the table in my bedroom.  I wanted to stare at it for a while.  Hoping the right color would hit me.  The more I looked at it the less I wanted to redo it.  Was I trying to keep it for my self or was it that it was beautiful the way it was?

After days of tossing around ideas this is what I decided to do.  Leave it alone and let its beauty be.  It is rich in wear and tear, nicks and dents give it a story but most of all its full of character and charm.  Why cover all of that up with paint and seal away it’s past.  After all age can be a powerful story to tell.  So the plan for this old wood tool box is nothing more than a clear coat on the outside.  By doing a clear coat it seals it and makes it safe to use around your family.

What to use it for well I have so many ideas.  It could sit on an ottoman in your family room with remotes and snacks, it could be on top of your dryer for lost socks, what about on your family table to hold paper plates, napkins and forks.  I could go on but you get the picture its decorative and functional organization all the way around.

As I said it’s hard for me to let one of these tool boxes get out of my hands, but I’m doing just that today.  This sweet little wood tool box will be up at Doc Holliday’s Emporium by 4:00 on (Today) Tuesday.  I have such a love affair with old furniture and it’s hard to part with pieces.  I hope you have a fantastic Tuesday planned with lots of memories to be made.  Have a Blue Happy day!!
