Something For My New Granddaughter

January 30, 2017

We are getting closer to meeting our new granddaughter. Greg and I are so excited to meet her. Over the past few months I have worked on all the furniture for her room. The crib is white with nothing to do to it but set it up and dress it. The changing table was a redo blog a few weeks ago. We bought a nursing chair with ottoman online and it worked perfect with the decor. I noticed Ali had ask her guest at her shower to bring a children’s book so she could read to Lyla. So I dug in my storage stash and found a white book shelf to store all of Lyla’s books.

All that needed to be done was the dresser. I found the perfect dresser in my favorite place to find amazing things. Yes Rustybydesignauction.com had the perfect dresser for this nursery. It has 4 smaller drawers and one long larger drawer at the bottom. What makes it so perfect is that the taller cabinet drawer on the right has a hanging bar. The bar pulls out so you can easily see what is hanging or ease of hanging things up. Once this dresser is redone it will be the stand out piece in the nursery. I’m aware MY before picture is bad. I bought the dresser on Labor Day weekend. A week later had to change phones. I have no idea how to get that photo out of the cloud. So you will have to just be okay with a picture I took of my computer screen.

The crib, changing table and shelf are white so this dresser is getting a punch of color. The theme to this nursery is jungle theme. Ali isn’t a fan of pink and why not do her room different from the normal explosion of pink. So I went dark olive-green paint by Annie Sloan. It took 2 coats to cover the cream-white that is was. I let that dry and sanded it all over taking off some of the green paint to distress it. I finished off the cabinet with Valspar clear finish. I left the insides of the drawers and the cabinet natural wood with just a clear coat on them. The original hardware was paint cream-white so I followed that by finishing them out in the olive-green paint. The handle on the cabinet was removed so I could use this great animal hardware. I used the back panel of the original hardware to make it pop. I needed something to put between the two piece’s to make them work together.  Instead of using a washer that seemed boring I used an old wood checker.  Greg drilled a hole in the center and it was perfect to finish this hardware off.

This redo is done and what a difference it will make in the room.  There isn’t a lot of change we can do to the room because it is an apartment but we can make a difference with the furniture.  Every piece of furniture doesn’t have to match or make a perfect set.  Adding those pieces that stand out give the room personality.  Once we fill the room with all the goodies for this little girl it will all come together.  I’m excited to meet her and can’t wait to love her. I hope your Monday is full and Blue Happy.
