Last weekend I was in the mood for fall. Anything fall would be nice but it’s hard to get in that mood when the weather is still 85-90 degrees on some days. I decided we would start a new tradition in our family despite the hot weather. On Saturday night we celebrated our first but not last “Fall Family Fun Night”!!
What a blast we had guest included Yaya & Papaw (Janice and David), Heather, Clint, Ethan, Scarlet, Tim, Karen and LolliPops. Other family was invited but I gave late notice on this celebration so they already had plans. We started the night with a taco dinner, cheese dip, fresh guacamole, chips and dessert was a birthday cake for my son-in-law. It was yummy and we all sat around the table having a great time. One by one we lost the men to sports on TV. All the girls did Fall stuff with the kiddo’s. Okay Ethan, Scarlett could have cared less.
We started with a pumpkin painting contest between Karen, Janice, Ethan and Heather. I didn’t paint, I didn’t think it was fair at all for me to paint for a prize. We were going to have the men judge it but Ethan demanded he would judge. It was really cute he walk slowly around the table. One by one he looked at each pumpkin. He got to Heather’s and ever so sweetly said my Momma wins. Janice and Karen felt it was stacked in her favor due to the judge knowing her.
Once everyone got over the pumpkin judging we started our caramel apples. Now this was a bit different because of the size of the apples. I bought one of those kits with the caramel wraps and sticks. Problem was there were no sticks and the a wraps didn’t cover the large apples I bought. We had such a great laugh at Clint as he tried so hard to make the caramel fit over the apple. We all decided that when they got hot in the oven the caramel would just run down the apple. Nope that didn’t happen either, So no sticks and not enough caramel, well they were good anyway and we all enjoyed them.
Heather dressed the kids in the cutest costumes. She did this so all the grandparents along with Tim and Karen could seem them dressed up. After the kids went to bed then this happened. Oh Greg!!
Starting anew tradition was successful with our family. Next year I will plan ahead so that everyone can be here. We shared story’s and watched Ethan enjoy his family fun night. It’s moments like these that make you realize what is important in life. Last year we didn’t have Scarlett and now I can’t even imagine not having her in the family. Last year a few weeks before Greg was in the hospital fighting for his life. Last year a few weeks later my dear sweet friend Karen found out she had cancer. Last year my whole world seem to be falling apart. This year Scarlett it’s here, Greg is healthy and Karen kicked cancers butt. Blessings, all blessings for this family. I’ve learned to not think that tomorrow will present it’s self the way you plan it. I’ve learned that prayer is ever so important but most of all I’ve learned to live in the moment and cherish those around you. Another Blue Happy moment of memories were had and will have again.
