Let Christmas Begin

November 29, 2016

I’m sure that you all shopped this past weekend.  I did from the comfort of a recline with my feet above heart level per my doctor.  I’ve finished all my gift shopping all I need now is the stocking stuffers. Not bragging because this wouldn’t have been possible if not forced by Doc A.  It’s kinda nice maybe this will show me that I wanna get things done early so not to be rushing around days before Christmas.  Well we will see if I follow through with early shopping next year.

I did a bit of decorating before I had my surgery not much, more like did a bit of prep work.  Greg pulled it all out this weekend and helped with the flurry of snowmen decorating.  He put them up and I would say no that goes over there or no the tall ones go in the back.  Never the less it got done and I’m glad it did because sitting here with boxes everywhere and not able to pick it up drives me crazy.  Last year every time we opened and shut the front door bits and pieces fell off my door wreath.  I had used the same wreath for years and it was time for a redo.  Before surgery I thought it would be a great project while I was down so I bought all the goodies for my new wreath.  Well that was all of one hour filled with fun while I made it.  It turned out so great and it’s full of burlap that I love. Seems every year I keep making things more simple, more relaxed and enjoyable. I think I like this side of me.

So now that the decorations are put up and the gifts are bought it’s time to wrap it all up.  That sounds like I  mean wrap it up this is all over, no I mean wrap up the gifts.  Every year I wrap all my gifts in one paper “OCD me”.  How ever you decide to wrap  your gifts that okay as long as it what you want to do.  I make it a big deal every year going to get hot chocolate, walking up and down the row of wrapping paper at Hobby Lobby and finally after about an hour I pick.  I didn’t have time before my surgery so I sent Greg. He left the house got the paper in 30 minutes and that included driving time.  He did a fine job but I can’t help think what paper he missed because he picked the first one he saw.  Oh well there is always next year and I do like the paper so plaid it is this year.

This year is different all the stockings wouldn’t fit on the fire-place mantel.  We have a double-sided fire-place so 4 of us went on one side and 4 of us went on the other side.  Nice and even numbers until next year when Lyla will be here then it’s back to the drawing board.  I love this time of year but I don’t like the rushing around, decorating, filling my calendar up, shopping and wrapping.  It will drive you crazy and make you some what of a grump. I’m trying hard to make it slow down and enjoy the season, it’s true meaning and my family.  I hope you can slow your pace and take a moment to look at your family and this time of year.  We will never get this holiday again so make it count. This was brought to my attention this week when it was reported that one of our own Dallas Cowboys lost his mom.  He stated later he was glad he got one more Thanksgiving.  It made me think we are all on limited time and we need to cherish each moment.   As the weeks go on I will be sharing different decorations in my home some are tradition and some are just for fun. Make the best of your day and have a slow  Blue Happy Tuesday!
