Wow this weekend has been  so full of Blue Happy things. We moved up stairs at Doc Hollidays Emporium to a large booth and it is fantastic. So much space to fill with Blue Happy Living Blog items. I got a good start on filling it up and will be adding more items this week. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I’m glad I picked this place for my blog readers to shop. I’m over whelmed with the sweet messages about Blue Happy from my readers wishing me best wishes on the larger space.   As the holiday season gets closer I will be adding gift items for you to purchase.  I hope you find the time to shop I know you will enjoy Doc Hollidays.

Other than filling up the new booth I worked on some great projects. In storage I had an old dresser from the 70’s. It was labeled that it came from a furniture builder in Paris Texas. It was covered in that orange stain and was boxy, clumpy and big. I knew I needed to save this bad boy from what the 70’s had done to him.  I stared with a good sand and clean up and boy did it need it.  When I cleaned the top off I noticed a water ring , you know those big black rings are on almost all furniture sooner or later.  I needed to come up with a plan that would cover that because you can never get those out. This dresser was a challenge because of the stain, its shape and it was just so plain jane.  I try to make my pieces different a bit artsy and not just another painted piece of furniture.  So with that in mind I decided to mix paint and stain with a pretty top.  I painted out the body in a Linen White by Valspar and finished it by sanding the edges.  The top of the dresser was sanded and stained in a dark walnut.  I used a large stencil  on top and that was the way I covered up the water stain.  After the paint on the stencil dried I used my sander and went over it a few times.  This made it look worn, old and a bit shabby chic vintage.  After I sanded it I wanted it to look even older so I applied another layer of stain right on top of it.  That turned out amazing and gave it that wow factor.  The drawers were stained the same as the top but I painted out the long wood handles in the Linen White.  As I did the body after painting I sanded the handles so they had a well-worn look.  The top drawer had no handle so I covered the middle screw hole with a wood medallion and used some beautiful knobs I had in my stash.  I applied a clear coat from top to bottle to finish it off.

This piece turned out so amazing and to think a few days ago it was just another 70’s left over.  It now sits at Doc Hollidays Emporium ready to have a new home.  My weekend was full of projects and I was so tired by the end of Sunday evening.  I hope that your weekend was  blessed as mine.  Today is Monday and you have a new week in front of you. I hope that your week is Blue Happy.
