When someone walks into your home what is the first thing they see? Piles of mail, your keys or maybe your phone and charger. What ever you keep by your door it needs to be organized not only for entering guest but for you and your family.
At my front door there is an old hall tree. Greg and I bought it on one of our estate sale Saturday morning runs. I love it because it is functional and decorative all in one. There is a funny story to this hall tree it needed about a half an inch fitting into the spot we have it. If it didn’t have the trim at the top it would fit. Greg said no problem honey when I come back in town next weekend I’ll adjust the top and make it fit. As the week went on I decided I didn’t wanna wait for Greg so I took matters into my own hands. It was more like a screw driver and hammer. I just needed a half an inch to make it slide right in to place. I used the screw driver and laid it against the wall and used the hammer to pound a dent into the wall. Perfect I slide the piece right into place. Now to fix the dry wall so that Greg doesn’t know what I did. All fixed and now it looks like a build in piece. It is a funny story Greg likes to tell people when they come to visit. It’s still there, we still love it and it’s not moving!!
I decided to do a piece that would welcome your guest and recycle a table that was way to short to fit into the life style of todays decor. I got this little table at an auction for only $5. It needed to be recycled so I pulled a few things together that I already had and made it into an entry way table that is decorative and organizing. First things first clean this little table up. I sanded the top until I found this fantastic wood. The plan was to stain the top with dark walnut and paint the legs out in Linen White from Valspar. I did just that along with sanding the edges and clear coating the table from top to bottom. I attached a board to the back that was 48 inches tall. Staining it dark walnut as well made it seem as if it belonged to this little table. Before I attached it I sanded it and gave it a clear coat finish. To make it an organizing piece I added the decorative HOME sign with hooks to the top. You’ll have to look close in the picture because the hooks are black and hard to see. They are attached to the bottom of the home sign. Great for keys, purses or other items that can be hung on a hook.
Ready for any entry way front door or back door. It’s easy to make your home more welcoming just by organizing the area. It doesn’t have to be a piece of furniture it can be framed items on the wall along with a simple hook system to hang things. You just have to find what will work for your family. If you are interested in this piece it is at Doc Hollidays Emporium in Wylie. It’s gonna be a very Blue Happy Tuesday!
