I always try my best to keep my promise. I worked so hard today to get this project done. I did something way different that most of you will think I’m a little bit crazy. I’m not you really can do this project and not destroy you fabric.
I bought this chair at an auction and it was a bit tattered. It had a few worn spots on the fabric but it was so pretty. The dark wood was just to dark and heavy. I started with a good sanding and allowed some of the natural wood to show through. That woke it up and it looked as if it was coming to life again. Next was to deal with the fabric on the chair. Even though it had some worn spots it was still in pretty good condition. I love burlap so ripping it off was just not on the table for me. I used stencils and made a simple but bright design on the chair. Now here is the step that you will all think I have lost it. I might have with all the wedding stuff this weekend I’m so very tired I’m not sure I haven’t. To finish off the wood and the fabric I gave this one coat of clear finish spray. Yes that is what I said I sprayed clear finish not only on the wood frame but on the burlap as well. It will not hurt it but it will give it protection from ripping out or from fading. The worn spots will also be protected. I promise you can do this to fabric and it will not mess it up. I’m sure you are asking if it makes it hard or crunchy, no it doesn’t at all!!!
I bought this chair in an auction because no one else wanted to buy it. It had a few bids but people were not seeing to potential in it. I saw that it just needed some TLC and it could be worked back into someone’s home. I love this kinda chair for a bedroom or a dressing chair in the closet. What about a chair to add to your family room for extra seating. Look for those project pieces that no one is paying attention to. If the bones are good then you can make a great piece to add to your home. This chair was just shabby and not its chic. It pulled together to be something vintage and beautiful. Once again recycled and given renewed life.
