REVEAL Day 3 Not So Crappy to Happy

August 18, 2016

This piece isn’t that crappy. Really, you could move it right in and use it “as is” if you needed to. It’s yellow orangish stain gives it away as a 90’s piece. Found on the side of the road left for the garbage man. Kinda sad because it has so much more to give just needs a quick update. So that is what I did, I gave it a shabby chic update.

Just like the piano bench on Mondays blog I used old fence wood found in my neighbors trash to make a new top.  I added the teal paint and waited for it to dry before I sanded the board.  I cut the piece to fit the top and then attached them with screws.  Once attached I stained the edges and the ends, then lightly dusted the top with the same dark stain.  The table sides were sanded to remove the clear coat.  By doing this it opens up the wood so it will except the stain. I reused the hardware because it looked good with the table. If I wanted to use new hardware I would have had to do a repair. If you are painting a piece its easy to do a repair because the paint will cover it.  Not so true when staining, repairs are hard to hide.  The base of the table is metal and I decided to leave it the brown.  It goes well with the stain and I wouldn’t want it any other color for this table.  The great thing about this piece is you can remove the box from the base.  You could sit it on another table or the dresser top, just about anywhere.  The base folds down for storage.

Once again a piece saved from the city dump.  I’m not a person that believes that every time you need something new for your home you have to go shopping at a furniture store.  Why not give your home personality with things that are different from what most stores have on sale.  There are things that need to be fresh and new but the little things that are different are what makes your home yours.  Before you toss something out ask yourself if it can be renewed and reused.  Ask friends and family if they need it first and if no one needs or wants it donate it to your local charity.  Please don’t just toss it outside to weather  or put it out for trash pick up.  If you want a room to have a complete makeover make a plan.  Plan the room out and what it’s use will be, pick colors that make you happy and remove all the things you will not need for this room redo.  Take a weekend and follow your plan.  If your budget is low paint, spray paint and a few trash trolling goodies can make all the difference in just a couple of days.

Recycling is what we all should do even if we have all the money in the world to spend.  It’s what is right for our plant so we don’t have such a big foot print.  I hope you have enjoyed the past 3 days of redo’s there is one more on Friday.  We will be going a bit light for the Friday reveal with a touch of tile. I hope your Thursday is going great and it’s been a Blue Happy Day.
