Well it’s not Friday nor Saturday it’s Sunday and this project has made me go mad. Really I’m pretty sure I’m close to a straight jacket and a rubber room. Not one of my plans for this little table that I started with ended up in the final piece. I’m tossing it up as my artist soul took over and won. It still turned out to be one of my best pieces yet. It was left for trash and I trolled it. I was inspired to make it something special and I’m pretty sure it’s that.
So as I blogged on Friday, it was gonna be white and tiled on the top. Just when I thought the 6 coat of white paint was gonna be enough it wasn’t. It just wouldn’t cover and make an even finish. So out went the white and in came 2 coats of gray primer followed by navy blue paint. Only 2 coats and it looked amazing. So now the white marble tile looked like it didn’t match. That’s when a light bulb went off and I thought about one of the treasures I bought back from San Antonio. YARD STICKS! Old vintage yard sticks from different cities, companies and all different ages. I cut them and placed them on the top inside the pie shell edge. The edges are sanded to go along with the vintage look of the yard sticks and it was all finished off with a clear coat finish.
This project took 15 days I’m not kidding. The wood was bad, it had several repairs and it wasn’t stable at all. I had to take it completely apart and put it all back together after replacing the bottom shelf. It just goes to show you that the best made plans don’t always go off well. I’m mean really how many days before I figured out my plan needed to be rethought. I was holding on so tight to my plan that I wasted all this time. I always learn from things that get out of control and boy did I learn from this project. I need to realize that not all projects go as planned, when wood is badly damaged stop and investigate and don’t be so stubborn that you can’t see the real issue and change that needs to happen.
So sorry that I took until Sunday to let you see this beautiful piece. I hope that your weekend was full of blessing and your morning is Blue Happy!
