Amazing Redo/Renew/Reuse Make Over Reveal

July 20, 2016

I get online daily to troll through the mounds of items people are selling on these online garage sales.  I look for items under $20 and that are ready to be up cycled.  A few weeks ago I found this great little bread box.  It was on the high side for such a small item but it spoke to me.  NO I don’t really hear them talk to me, but it’s a feeling I get.  I instantly knew what I was gonna do with it.  I have the privilege to help a little girl put her room back together after that terrible hail storm in Wylie Texas.  Fist size hail ripped holes in their roof while they took cover in the house.  It took months to get things back to normal and now her room is ready for the jewels to be added.

So here we go with this cute but useful artsy little bread box that is going to be a vanity organizer.  Yep that’s what I said a vanity organizer.  How many times do you pick up your own hair things all over the house. Not to mention if you put a little girl in the house.  My friend Rachel the Mom of this sweet child has 2 more girls and they are twins.  That is a lot of hair pins, pony tail holders, ribbons and so on and so on.  This  vanity box will change how they are stored and make them easier to find.

This piece  require a lot of cleaning time.  What you can’t see is there is a layer of old vanish on it.  Not a bad thing it’s what they used a long time ago.  It will come off with a bit of elbow grease and a good sanding.  I removed all the hardware and used Valspar spray paint for metal.  I picked black so it would blend with any decor we went with.  I planned this little box before her mom and I picked out all the new decor for her room.

We are going with a shabby chic style of course we are because I love it so. I wanted it to have a very old worn look as if someone had passed it down to her as a family keepsake.   It will fit right into what we are doing in her new room.  Shabby chic can fit in with most any decor in any  home completely shabby chic or a home with most any other decor.  Let’s pick the paint first.  I went with a sea green because that is what this little girl wanted.  I think she picked a great color! I used valspar spray paint for wood applying 2 coats for good coverage.  I painted the outside as well as the inside.  Sanding the edges lightly this time wouldn’t work.  I used a rougher sandpaper on my sander making it more distressed than usual.  After the painted had dried I did the stencil and added the upholstery nails so it wasn’t so flat on the front.  I used a satin clear coat to protect the paint and the stencil work and sat it aside to dry.

On the inside I know that little girls have lots of hair things, jewelry and trinkets.  I almost used wood and made dividers but if I did there would be no changing or adding things for organizing.  As she gets older and gets into make-up the ability to take out the trays and clean them would be important.  So I went with this little white organizers that are removable.  I put 2 hooks on the back of the piece for jewelry or hand bands.  There is plenty of space to put your hair brushes and combs.

This little bread box is now a beautiful vanity box to organize all her small items that would other wise lay in a draw, on the floor or who knows where.  It’s one way to  decoratively organize any girls room with style.  This little box was a bargin, it’s now redone, renewed and reused for many more years to come.  Trash trolling the streets for treasure or any online garage sale is a great way to fill your home with beautiful decor.  You just have to step outside your comfort and imagine.  Here’s to hump day and have a Blue Happy one!
