I love a 2 for 1 sale don’t you? I love anything that is 2 for 1 cause I’m a bargain , trash trolling kinda girl. So I thought that I would give you a 2 for 1 project day.
Project 1: I bought this old metal tray at an estate sale on the last day. That is the best day to shop estate sales because they mark everything so cheap and this little tray was no exception. I got it for a steal at $1, so so cool right! I thought I would redo it for me to use on my patio but when Heather saw it she snagged it. So for Heather’s office in her new home it will be redone. Heather is doing her new home with a base color of gray and adding different shades of greens. In her office she is using green apple, a bright and lively color. The handles were easily removed and sat aside. I used a gray base to cover the entire tray even on the bottom. With the Texas heat and humidity it took forever to dry, but once it was I layered on the stencils. I use words to give it a point of inspiration. I finished it off with a clear finish to protect the paint when used. A tray is great to have in any room and has many uses. There are trays every where at thrift stores, estate sales, garage sales and sometimes in your neighbors trash. Grab up a few and get to redoing and renewing.
Project 2: I thought I would just finish off Heather’s office with something for her book shelf. My daughter loves coffee and loves books. Both make her very happy. She was one of those kids that was reading all the time. One summer we told her she wasn’t allowed to read until she rode her back for at least 1 hour. She would sleep until 10 get up ride up and down the street for an hour then in her room to read the rest of the day. Oh and when she was riding she would have big tears running down her face because she wanted to be reading. I know I was a mean momma. Again at an estate sale I found these metal bookends for a dollar. In the sixties my dad had these in his office, but now that I see them up close they are butt ugly here in 2016. I’m gonna change that with a little paint and some butterflies. I used the same gray as the tray and gave the book ends a nice smooth coat. Again the drying time was long because it’s Texas in July but once dry it was one simple step that changed these ugly book ends. They went from ugly to amazing and cute for Heather’s favorite books. I used liquid nail glue to attach these wood butterflies, also from an estate sale $1 for the pair. I had painted them apple green at the same time I painted the book ends so they were all dry and ready to be attached. This was so fast and easy to redo and didn’t cost big bucks. I can’t wait until her new house is finished so I can start to decorate it with all kinds of finds.
My 2 for 1 projects didn’t break the bank and were so easy to do. Small redo’s can make a big difference in a room. At this point her office is almost complete with all the accessories I have blogged about. We only need a rug and a chair for the room and then we are ready to load it all in, well as soon as it’s finished. Can’t wait for October 2016 moving date!! I hope you learned something today and get out there and redo things for your home. Have a great Blue Happy Tuesday!
Heather

July 26, 2016Hard to believe that those ugly bookends became something so cute. Thats the fun of the redo you never know how great something can be until you recreate it.
