Okay I’m not sure what is going on but Greg the man of my dreams has sent me into shock. We had an old Adirondack wood chair that apparently fell apart after only a year. I bought it at an estate sale and it was pretty old and worn when I bought it. I guess it just couldn’t do the Texas sun this year and just fell flat on the patio. When Greg found the chair he decided to just toss it. WHAT! I stopped him from tossing out the old wood it was beautiful and aged surely something can be made from it. Does he not read my blog? Is he confused as to who he is married to and all that I talk about. Just toss it out for the garbage man to put in the city dump. I THINK NOT SIR!
I put the old wood in my stash behind the barn and waited until my creative head had a light bulb moment. A few weeks ago my son and his girl friend had some friends over to swim. I ask them to make sure they picked up their towels. The next morning I went out to check the pool to make sure that everything was put away and tidy. They did pick up the towels but there were a couple of towels draped over the chairs to dry. That is fine but I thought to myself another summer of towels everywhere. Okay here is the light bulb moment I needed, make a towel hook to hang by the door. So the morning after a pool party I can just reach out the door grab the towels to wash. My furniture cushions aren’t wet from he dripping towels so it’s a win, win for me.
I went to my wood stash to just grab a long piece of old wood to screw on a few hooks, hang it and done. As I walked up to the pile the back of the chair was on top. It was the only thing left from the chair that didn’t fall apart. I got so excited and I didn’t need to look any further this would be perfect. I had a creative thought immediately about how to work this project out. I didn’t have to do anything to the old wood it was perfectly aged and ready to start my project. On our patio we have an American theme with lots of flags and red, white and blue. So I thought I would follow this theme on the towel rack. I pulled out a stencil that has stars, 2 rows of starts that are side by side. I knew I was putting 3 hooks on the rack so I decide to put stars on the two slates that wouldn’t have hooks. I did the stars in white so they would stand out. I used black double hooks that I found at Hobby Lobby on clearance for 80 cents each just 2 weeks ago. After the stenciled stars were dry I put the hooks on. Now to let Greg know that what he was tossing out is now a great piece for our patio. I texted him to come out on the patio, we text a lot because he works from home and is always on the phone. When he came out he loved it and said you were right it was worth keeping. HELLO READ THE BLOG DUDE! He gladly hung it up by the back door. It looks perfect and will be a great added piece to our pool parties.
When I bought the old chair I paid $2.50 because it was 75% off on the last day of the estate sale. The hooks on clearance at Hobby Lobby were $2.40, steal! I had the paint and the stencil so no cost there. All in all under $5 for this project only a little bit of shock that Greg was tossing it out to the trash. He now gets it or at least I hope he does. He did go trash trolling with me last night and even got out and grabbed a night stand sitting on the curb. This guy is coming around to living the Blue Happy Life. What do you do with all those wet towels that your kids pile up during the summer time? Well you find some old wood, stencil something cool on it and finish it with a few hooks for towels. This kinda towel rack can be used at the pool, back door or in a laundry room. I hope your Thursday is Blue Happy and full of summer time fun. On tomorrows blog I will be starting 5 days or summer time art projects that the entire family can do. I will share one of the 5 projects tomorrow and give you a shopping list for all 5 projects. It’s hot outside so stay in the cool house and lets art it up!
