Frame It!

June 22, 2016

Organization is the best way to take control of your home.  Not only your home but your life as well.  Recently a co-worker and friend sold her beautiful home to build a new home.  She was giving me some furniture so I had to go to her house to pick it up.  Her family had already moved out, she told me where the key was to let myself in.  That part of the story was normal but its the end that Greg just rolled his eye’s at me. As we were backing out of the drive way I noticed something sticking out of the trash can.  I yelled stop Greg! He slammed on the brakes so hard he almost broke my neck.  Well not really but trust me he yelled at me for scaring him.  He thought he was about to back into something. As I jumped out of the truck to run to the trash can my heart was beating so fast.  What was that sticking up out of that big green can.  What treasure had I found that someone (my friend) had tossed away.  I flipped back the lid and there is was a beautiful frame.  I’m not sure what Joy had used it for but she had drilled holes in all the corners.  I’m pretty sure it was how she had it hanging.  I still need to ask her about that and what it was used for. In the back of my truck it went and off to my storage unit to store it until I had a great idea for it.

Trash can find!

That idea came in the form of organizing my daughters office.  How many times have you looked for office supplies around the house.  You know you saw the tape last week but now it’s not where you saw it.   This can be so frustrating when you need something and you don’t know where it is and no time to look for it.  I’m gonna use the frame to organize her office supplies so it’s handy to get to.  I use this same type of storage in my art studio to keep all my supplies out in open but they have a decorative organized look.

The open holes on corner of frame

I first painted the frame apple green to match other storage that will be in her new home office.  I used old scrabble letters to spell out Heather’s name at the top and office at the bottom.  I used two silver hooks one on each side in the drilled holes.  These hooks will be used to hang things that Heather needs to get up and off her desk but needs to keep them at arms reach.  To cover all the other drilled holes I used some glass stones and glue.  It gave the frame a fun look all while serving a purpose.  I let all the glue dry over night so the next day I could work on the insert to the frame.   I painted a 16×20 canvas in medium gray.  Heather  is using gray as the base color in her new home so this pulls it all together.  Once the gray paint was dry I used a very large stencil to add art. If she ever decided to take all the supplies off it still has purpose and isn’t just a blank canvas.  I used stick on hooks for all the supplies to hang from.  These work great and can hold the weight of the supplies.  I randomly placed them so it wasn’t so perfect and the different space between them helps with longer items.  Heather will have her supplies she needs at arms reach and off her desk.  By Framing It her office will clear of clutter and decoratively organized.

From trash to decoratively organized!

I’m sure that some of you are saying that this might be way over the top for organizing.  It might be, but trust me digging in a junk drawer for tape or whatever is a waste of time.  I know we have all done the junk drawer dig.  Organizing can be fun and decorative just like this supply artwork for Heather Office.  It makes for a happy home and a happy home is a Blue Happy life.  It’s hump day and you are now two days from your weekend.  I hope that you find something to organize today even if it’s a small space in your life.  Go be Blue Happy!
