Project Reveal!!!

June 16, 2016

There is always a story to every project I do.  Always a connection to my life or someone in my life.  This project was no different and the project well, it turned out cuter than I thought it out in my head.  It’s no secret if you have been reading my blog that I talk about having things and people in your life that you love and cherish.  Other wise your life is cluttered with people and things that get in the way of the ones you love.  My husband is the love of my life and my children are the gold in my heart, I love my friends and the Cherry on top of my heart well that is my sweet Cooper and Cherry my puppy dogs.

If you’re not a dog person first I’m so sorry because until you have a dog you will not understand this blog.  I love my doggies and can not imagine my life without them.  Dogs give 100% unconditional love.  Now there are times they can challenge you when you are training. You work through that and sooner or later it all works out.  Greg bought me Cooper for 3 reasons and they all are very loving and one is funny.  First reason was I had a puppy dog named Frostie he was 15 years old and his little body was failing him.  Second reason was my son better now as the caboose of the family was packing up and moving out.  At this point Dallas had turned 21 and wanted to spread his wings and fly.  Those are the 2 loving reasons that Greg went out of his way to find me a new puppy.  The third reason is the funny reason and so you know,  he did it to save himself.  I’m  a very focused person to a point of over focus at time on those that I love.  Greg knew with the caboose out of the house and my sweet Frostie soon leaving this world I was gonna turn all my focus on to him. The only left standing person in my house other than me. I’m pretty sure that was a scary thought for him at times so he put his focus on finding me Cooper.  It worked out for Greg I’m in love with this little guy and he is the highlight of my day.  Cooper came into our home the week before Dallas’ moved out in March of 2013.  Sadly Frostie passed away in June of that same year.  I still to this day miss him more than I can express.  He was the best little buddy and I loved him so. A few months later Cooper was getting into a BUNCH of trouble around the house I contacted my vet to see what I could do as far as training.  After  a long conversation his best advice get him a friend.  My first thought was could you put that in writing cause I’m pretty sure Greg isn’t gonna believe that you said that.  Greg was like a deer in head lights, but he got over it because in came Cherry to our house.  She is a little Diva with a bad attitude  and a sassy little girl.  Now Cooper doesn’t get into so much trouble they get into trouble together.  Yep that’s right it’s now just double trouble around our house. So let me get to the project recently friends of ours got a new puppy his name is Chuey. I have yet to get to meet him but he inspired me to do this project.  I never pass up on old drawers from dressers on the side of the road.  They are so useful and you can make many things our of them.  You can put wheels on the bottom and use them for storage under your bed or you can hang them on the wall for decoratively organized storage. I’ve even done a past blog on how I use them all painted out with great hardware in my kitchen pantry for storage.  So many ways to up cycle what people are tossing out.  The arrival of Chuey inspired me to up cycle an old drawer into a doggie bed.  I’ve done one of these before on the blog but it wasn’t near a cute as this one turned out.

The front of the old drawer was stained dark and it seemed to go with the great decor of our friends home.  Which by the way is amazing and full of so many great idea’s maybe someday she will let me do a blog on her home it is the coolest.  Okay back to the project reveal, sorry I get side tracked.  So I left it the dark stain and painted out the drawer box in a light cream color.  I used a jig saw to cut out the sides because, well Chuey appears to have short legs and I don’t think they will get much longer.   The hardware was already gone when I found it but it had 2 holes to deal with.  In one I used a great piece of hardware I had in my stash.  It seemed appropriate because it was a heart and dogs always win your heart over.  The other hole in the drawer front was covered by the scrabble  letters that spell out Chuey.  Of course I gave it the shabby chic sanding and used clear coat to finish it off. The old drawer wouldn’t sit leave because of the drawer front sits a bit lower than the back.  I needed something to raise up the back by about a half and inch.  I had these great little knobs I took off a cabinet from another project and they were perfect.  After I finished all that, I added the dark green doggie bed for Chuey to sleep on.  There it is from old drawer tossed out adding a bit of paint, hardware, scrabble letters and a nice place to lay you have a cute doggie bed.  Total cost of this bed was $15 for the doggie pad at pet smart.  Once again I prove that some one’s trash is another mans treasure!!

This project turned out so cute and I’m gonna enjoy giving this to our friends.  I hope that Chuey loves it as well and spends some restful times in it.  I hope today on this thursday you are lucky and blessed to find some trash that you can make into treasure for you or a friend.  If you don’t have a dog or need to add another to your home please consider adopting one from a local shelter.  Dogs are like old furniture on the side of the road they just need a bit of love and polish to find the jewel underneath.  Have a Blue Happy Thursday!!!
