I stand firm that almost any piece of furniture real wood or not can be saved and up cycled into a usable piece. Well I think I’ve met my match and this piece is kicking my butt.
A few weeks ago a friend of mine ask me to stop by her house. She had a piece of furniture that she found and wanted to know how to redo it. I love to look at things people find and help them find ways to repurpose it. So off I went to visit my friend. When I got there what she had found a tea cart. It wasn’t real wood but it had great bones. I thought, with a bit of work it could be a great piece. My friend doesn’t have tools like a sander and this piece is gonna have to be sanded. So I offered to do the piece for her if she would let me share it on my blog. She happily agreed and in my truck it went.
I wasn’t given any real plan on color, stain or design so I decided stain on top and paint on the legs and under shelves. Now this is where I got my butt kicked. I sanded for hours on this top. I’m not sure what was spilled and sat on the top but folks it ain’t com’in out not now not ever. I have never been so frustrated with a project. I mean how long do you sand before you decide it isn’t gonna sand out. I finally came to the point and now it sits in my studio. After a couple of days away from the project I finally came up with a plan that is gonna save this tea cart and make it beautiful again. So this project isn’t done nor will it be until Friday. I will tell you this I have added the first steps to my design and I love it already. You will never know the damage it had. It’s gonna be very artsy and have a flair that is different from any thing you could go and buy. The reveal will be Friday!!!
Plans are made to change or sometimes you are forced to change them. This time I was forced but after giving it thought the new plan is gonna be great. It’s nice when things work out with the first try but sometimes we have to step back and rework our plan.
Daily life can be the same way, you get up with your day planned and before you know it something or someone has changed it all up. Most of us just let it scramble our day. If we could just turn our plan around and make it work the day could be great. Being willing to change with what our day offers makes for a happier life.
IT IS HUMP DAY! If your week is great you are blessed. If your week isn’t so great then turn it around and make it Blue Happy!
