I get lots of question from people who read my blog. Where do you get all the ideas you have for these projects? How long does it take you to redo a piece? Why do you do this? How do you know where to go find furniture that people toss out? These are easy questions but there is still one question that I’m ask almost 5 or more times a week.
Lets start with the first question. Where do I get all my ideas for me projects. Most of them just come to me. I have this way of looking at something and seeing its potential. Sometimes it comes as soon as I look at something and sometimes it comes to me days later. One thing is for sure if you need ideas there are plenty on Pinterest. Just put in key words that has to do with what you want and start learning.
How long does it take me to redo a piece of furniture? That depends on its size and how much detail I’m putting into it. For the most when I start a piece it takes me about 2 days. I’m one of those people once I start I go hard at it until it’s all finished. Sometimes there is a piece like the tea cart in Wednesday’s blog that kicks my butt and takes longer. I’ve been working on that for a few days now. It had lots of issues and I’ve had to put a bit more thought into it.
I love this question, Why do you do this? I have a need to create to make and change things. I love that I can look at something that no one else wants and give it new life and purpose. Creating something like a beautiful painting on canvas or giving trash new life runs deep in my soul. I will be an artist until the day I die, its how I breath.
How do I know where to go and find furniture that people toss out? Well that is easy I started doing it in my own neighborhood and added other neighborhoods after that. You can ask friends and family when trash pick up is in their neighborhood and go on the night before or the morning of. Make sure you check with the city about their local laws on picking up trash. Some cities DO NOT look kindly on us trash trolls.
Ok the big question I get the most is……..What kinda paint do I use on furniture and my kitchen cabinets. That is an easy answer. I do love chalk paint, but there are many brands out there. I like the American product sold at Michael’s. When I did my kitchen cabinets I used Valspar from Lowes. I get the top of the line of Valspar that has a built-in primer. Either way you go I love both of these style paints and it depends on the project which one I use at that time.
So these are the most asked questions I get about what I use on all my projects. One other question is what does Blue Happy mean. I love the sun and blue skies so when I’m unhappy I go outside and look up. It only takes a moment to get me back to happy. So that is why Blue Happy Living. Being Happy is truly a state of mind. Every day we all face people and events that make us unhappy so we have to make a choice. Today do I make it a Blue Happy day or do I sit in this mess and be unhappy. I decided to try my hardest to be happy. I do find times when I don’t make it a happy choice and that’s when I try to learn from it and turn it around.
I hope your Thursday is a Blue Happy one. Friday will be the reveal of the Tea Cart so come back and read up on this project that almost kicked my butt.
