Well here we are Monday the best day of the week. I’m so excited to be at this point in the massive redo. We are less than 24 hours from one of the biggest reveal weeks on the Blue Happy Living blog. I have worked many hours getting this all to happen and I’m so glad we are coming to the end. Lets face it redoing one room in your house is hard work. Two bedrooms, office and the front curb appeal to your home redo is insane.
After the floors were done on Friday around 2:00 I started putting things away. Greg and I got it all put back into place by around 4:00 then off to dinner with friends. I was so tired and wired I really couldn’t enjoy myself. After a good nights rest I was back at it at 7am. I put all the decorative things into place along with organizing. I still had a few things to finish up with painting the furniture but that all went down during the rest of the weekend.
I showed you the furniture I was doing blue and let me tell you it all came out fantastic. I’m going to reveal it to you when I reveal the room. When picking furniture for a room you have to take a lot of things into consideration like style, size and color. I stepped out of my comfort zone with the color and it really works with the room. When you buy or find furniture like I do sometimes you have to make the style and size work. It is what it is when you shop from auctions, thrift stores and street side, but oh the beauty when it all comes together.
What I will share with you today is the night stand I did for guest room #2. I really stretched my comfort zone with this color, it is a bit out there. I was inspired by a quilt I bought to drape the end of the bed. It had this beautiful coral color that just makes you happy when you see it. It’s bright but still comfortable and soft. I did this piece a bit different from how I do most of my pieces. The top of the night stand had some pretty deep nicks and scratches so I had to sand them out. When I started sanding what was revealed was beautiful wood grain. I wanted that to show but still wanted color. I watered down the paint using a 50/50 mix. It thinned the paint so the wood grain showed under the paint. After I put a pretty heavy layer of the mix on the top I used an old t-shirt and wiped off the excess. It turned out amazing. I finished out the rest of the table with 2 coats of paint. Once dry I sanded off the edges for the worn look and then did 2 clear coats for protection. I decided that if I was going way out of my comfort zone on color I would go a little more shabby than chic. So I sanded a bit more paint away than I normally do. I left the hardware the same because the aged brass look gave it even more character.
I purchased this little night stand at rustysbydesignauction.com for a tiny little price of $15. It really wasn’t anything special I just needed a side table and it worked price and all. The color I finished it out in was a bit risky, but makes the room. Sometimes we get into a the same old patterns in life and it’s hard to get out. I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone and try new and different things. Maybe today is the day for you to do just that. Try a new lunch or maybe wear different shoes. Heck paint a piece of furniture that has become boring and plane. The sky is the limit and after all it is the best day of the week. Have a Blue Happy Monday!
