When Heather was a little girl she would quietly stand for hours next to me when I painted. She would ask me over and over again who I was painting for. I would say I’m just painting, then she would ask “can it be for me momma”. I so miss those days with her cheek pressed against my shoulder.
These days she is all grown up. When she does have time to come by the house and I’m working she always has a smile. If I’m working on something that strikes her fancy she always ask who is that for? Most of the time I’m working on something that is already sold. She always says it really pretty I wish it was for my new house. Maybe you could find me one.
Last night Greg and I had dinner with her little family and her in-laws. We all talked about the new house and how busy that time will be for them. Ethan starts Kindergarten in August, the new baby comes in September and moving date is set for late October. Wow it’s gonna be busy, so I’m going to help out by doing a few pieces for their new house.
In the new house Heather will have an office where she and Ethan will both have a work space. My project today is just for my sweet Heather. Do you remember those little wood recipe boxes your aunt and grandma had on their kitchen counter? Well I do and they are still out there in thrift stores and garage sales. I picked one up for $1.99 at a local Goodwill store. The first thing I did was to drill the holes in the top of the lid. These holes will hold pens, pencils or even paint brushes for her desk. I painted it Granny Smith apple green because Heather loves green. I used a spray chalk paint that covered really well. Now you better sit down cause this next part might shock you. I didn’t sand off the edges for the worn shabby chic look. There is a good reason this little box was not real wood. You don’t get the same look when it’s not real wood so I left that stage out. I did want to add something fun so in my stash of goodies I had this great little wood bike with a basket full of flowers.
Heather is one of the most giving people I know. She is so willing to help people without complaining or asking anything in return. My daughter inspires me everyday as I watch her grow into this amazing women. I’m going to enjoy making things that she and Clint love for their new home. She has no idea I did this for her. I guess she will know when she reads the blog today. Wednesday is the mid marker of your week so make sure you fill the rest of the week with Blue Happy moments.

March 16, 2016Wow! I’m in tears for the second time today! I love this piece! It’s perfect. (Granny Smith apples are my favorite kind of apples!) seriously though, thank you for the kind words and the inspiration everyday. Love you, mom.
