What’s In A Chair

February 3, 2016

Most of us sit at a computer, sewing table or desk sometime during the day.  In my class at school I don’t have a desk because I like to be on the floor with the kids.  For many years I would get so aggravated at Greg because he would want a new desk chair once a year.  It drove me crazy when we would shop store after store for hours.  He would finally make a choice but to me these chairs all looked alike so why this one.  Until this past year I never really had a  desk or chair in our home.  I did the bills at the kitchen table within an hour I was done.  This past year when I started the blog I quickly learned the importance of a chair.

I started out doing my blog on a really small lap top at the kitchen table.  Blogging takes time and the wood chair in the kitchen got a bit tough to sit on so I moved to the dinning room chairs that had a padded seat.  I hated sitting in the dinning room late at night while Greg was in bed watching TV.  So I moved my laptop to the bed sitting on top of my knees this was not comfortable at all. At Christmas Greg gave me a Mac so I could blog without all the problems the little laptop gave me.  So that is when I made my sweet little desk/night table for my bedside.  It was great but I had no chair. I grabbed a chair that I had in my guest room with the promise to myself I’ll get a new chair. I went out looking and all the chairs in the stores are so office like not shabby chic at all.  I left my shopping trip a bit let down and disappointed.  I spent the next few weeks looking at thrift stores, auctions, estate sales and garage sales.  Finally one day I went to Forney to pick up my auction buys from Rustysbydesignauction.com.  I didn’t get a chair but I did find one that was at the thrift store next door.  It was a steal of a deal and  was the right size, color and shabby chic.  I brought it home and it fit perfect in my new master bedroom design.  I only paid $13 for the chair.  I was so excited until I sat down to blog the first night.  The chair had  a great comfortable back, the height was great for my short legs but the hard wood seat was killer after about 30 minutes.  Because the chair was such a great fit in the room I had to fix the hard seat problem.  I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and grabbed up a clearance chair pad for only $8 and it was gray.  PERFECT!!!

I never understood the importance of an office chair until I was in the middle of this issue.  I finished off my chair by adding this beautiful blue scarf that my dear friend Sonya Perry brought me from India.  It is beautiful, blue and nice to wrap around me when I’m blogging on a chilly night.  Sometimes we become aggravated at others in our homes when they don’t seem comfortable.  If we could just step back and look at their point of view we might be more understanding.  If we all try to make each other Blue Happy then I think we might be Blue Happy ourselves.  Have a Blue Happy Hump Day!
