One Man’s Trash

February 16, 2016

Oh be still my heart. I thought today my heart would jump right out of my chest. My son told me a secret today that was the cause of my fast heart beat and I’m sure my blood pressure was up. Why am I always the last to know these things. Where have I been that I missed this one. Now I know and well I’m over whelmed with this information.

I bought a lot of large pieces this weekend at estate sales and auctions. One piece was so big we had to ask Dallas to come by the house and help us unload it. He was very helpful and unloaded the pieces and got them into the house. I showed Dallas one of the pieces and told him my plan. I needed a piece of metal to go on the back as a back splash. It will serve as a dry bar on my patio sitting near the BBQ grill to serve from. I ask did he want to go with me to Lowes to find a piece of metal. He said sure but why buy it new why not go to the scrap yard. I knew about scrap yards but always thought they were just a big pile of mess and what in the world could I find there. Oh my goodness I found so much. I can’t wait to use all that I found in future projects.

We left the house and headed to the scrap yard. I was hoping for the best but didn’t expect much. If anything I got a couple of hours with my son and talking with him. We arrived and I was a bit wigged out over the germ aspect of the place. Dallas told me these men can be gruff so let me talk and deal with them. I said ok and off I went smiling and trying not to be grossed out. We started out the back door of the building to look. Right out the door I found the metal I needed. I picked it up and walk on a bit my eyes were wide open and really I was shocked at all the goodies in piles. There was so much stuff my head was running fast with all the ideas I could make from these things. I had to take a moment and refocus on my purpose of being there. I told myself to pick a few things that I knew I had plans for. I found an old metal chair that was in perfect shape just needs a paint job and remove one of the arms because one is missing. I found an old clock that is huge with no hands or mechanics to run the hands. I will show that later in a blog and how I used it on my patio. As I was about to leave I spotted the 2 white metal lawn chairs up on a pile. I had to have them because they were calling my name. When I’m done with they will be cherry red and revived. I’m pretty sure tomorrow I’m going back for the iron fence piece you see on the ground. Those have so much potential I can’t wait to dive into all of these finds and redo and reuse them. So the 2 metal lawn chairs, the metal parlor chair, the piece of metal for the back splash and the clock all for $11.  I was shocked, so shocked that the guy checking me out thought I was a bit loony because I got so excited.  I will be back again and again.

Creativity sometimes overwhelms me to a point it feels like I’m getting a bit dizzy. Creativity fuels me and pushes me to look at things in ways that most don’t. I love that I’m blessed with this artistic view on life and things. I’m such a Blue Happy person today. I hope your Tuesday is Blue Happy also.
