Master Bedroom Reveal

February 5, 2016

Well it’s Friday and it’s REVEAL DAY!!  After many months of waiting to finish this project it has come to an end.  Greg is a very smart man he left the house yesterday around 4 and didn’t return until 10pm.  I was putting on the final touches.  I’m in love with our new space it’s cozy, comfortable, clean and most of all DONE.  Well that isn’t entirely true the ceiling isn’t finished.  I have been collecting old vintage tins to cover the cove area of the ceiling.  They are hard to come by because finding one design in enough pieces to cover the ceiling can’t be done.  So I have decided to make every piece different and that is as hard as finding all one design.  I might rethink the pattern if this keeps up.

The bed is the center piece in this room with all the pillows and cozy bed cover.  Its embroidered  with dark gray over a light taupe color.  Purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond it was a complete set including sheets all for $299.  The king size bed frame I had for the past 7 years it just needed a pick me up.  When you have perfectly good furniture that looks tired don’t go spend good money on new furniture.  Making a trip to Lowes or Home Depot to check out paint colors can save you thousands.  Before painting this bed it had a very contemporary look with brushed silver  squares at the top of each corner.  I just painted over them and gave it a more shabby chic look.  The dresser was bought with the bed as a set.  I never bought the mirror because I know the TV would be placed on the top of the dresser so no need to waste the money.  Once I painted out the dresser I wanted to make the hardware different.  Because the handles are wide it was hard to find new hardware that would fit the holes.  I didn’t want to have to wood fill the holes and redrill so I up graded the handles by changing the look.  I used twine with wire to wrap the center of the handle.  I love the way the metal and twine work together for a look that is more to the style of the room.

Accessories are something I like to have around the house but don’t like to have an over load of them.  In my bedroom I used things that meant something to me or Greg.  Items that had use or decoratively organized things we use.  The lamps are one of my favorite things in the room.  Clearly from the 70’s these lamps are a jewel in the room.  I purchased them from rustysbydesignauction.com both for under $20.  The bench at the end of the bed is great to keep peace between Greg and I.  That’s where I put on my shoes at 4:30 every morning before I go to the gym so not to wake up Greg.  It’s a dressing bench from the 50’s. The Large white laundry basket that sits under the windows is where I put my bed pillows at night so they stay clean and fresh no puppies on them.  The old mild carton sitting next to the dresser is what I use for recycling.  I drink at least 8 bottles of water a day.  I found it troublesome when I would have several empty bottles sitting on the dresser waiting to be taken out to the recycle bin.  So incomes the mild crate to decoratively organize my bedroom recycles.  I got it at an estate sale for $15.  The cute little blue cabinet on the wall is where I store my oils.  I’m so into healing oils and the benefit they give me so having a place to store them was important.  All of these accessories make the room a great fit for Greg and I both.  The floors were done when the bathroom was done in a dark gray 24×24 tiles.  The walls are painted light gray like the rest of the house for an even flow.

We both love the new room and all the comfort it offers.  Greg did make one decisions all on his own in the design.  I came home from work one day and he had put a hook on the wall next to his bedside.  He likes to have a place for his rob so he made one.  I love that he felt he could just do it and not worry I would go all crazy girl about it.  Our room makes me Blue Happy! I hope you enjoy all the pictures and I hope your Friday is Blue Happy as well.
