Greg’s Debut Project

January 22, 2016

Okay months ago I brought home this round thing made of some kinda wicker.  I bought it at Rustybydesignauction.com and I had no idea what it was.  I didn’t go to the preview day I just bid on it without seeing it.  When I got to Rusty’s to pick it up I was shocked at the size, it was really big.  I sat it in the garage when I got home and when Greg saw it he laughed and said what the heck is that for.  I couldn’t answer him I just walked in the house and shut the door.  It was a funny moment for him but for me it was not so funny.

I take pride in the saying that I don’t buy things unless I know what they can become or that I have a place for it.  Well this very large ball of wicker twigs puzzled me and challenged my creativity.  I have had it for months and moved it from one side of the garage to the other and back again.  Then I loaded it up and took it to the new Blue Happy Storage building.  Greg opened his mouth one day and said I could make things like you do you know.  I said ok and brought him this crazy ball made of wicker twigs and said make something.  So he did, he made a hanging light for my patio.  Leave it to Greg to shine with a ball of wicker twigs.

Greg didn’t do anything crazy like paint it a bright color or even black.  He went with the natural look and it seems to have worked.  He went to World Market and bought a pre-made light kit that cost $15.  Also at World Market displayed with the light kits were the Edison Bulbs, cost was $13.  Greg ran the cord through the top of the wicker ball and decided how long he wanted the light to hang down.  To support the cord and the light so that it wouldn’t move he ran the end of the cord several times wrapping the cord around the top center wicker twig.  The Edison bulb is a very large bulb to fill the large space of the wicker ball.  He used 2 c-hooks in the patio ceiling and hung and swagged the cord over to the wall.  I was so excited when he plugged it in. It’s the perfect addition to our patio.

Greg came out on top, I ask him to create something and he did without any problems. I’m glad that I had creative block to this wicker twig ball so that Greg could show me up.  Blue Happy living has been such a great thing for us empty nesters we love doing projects together.  Greg is always happy to  help me and although he rolls his eyes more than he will admit, he always supports my crazy creativity.  He is such a big part of my Blue Happy.
