Art Studio Reveal Project

January 5, 2016

There is so much to show you there is no way it will al fit on one blog. So todays blog is about one of the many projects I did to make my studio complete.

One of the things my husband loves about me is I’m always on the hunt for a bargain. I can’t help myself I always look for ways to get what I want for next to nothing or even better FREE! My favorite day of the week is Tuesday. Around 5:00 my neighbors start putting out their bulk pick up on the curbs. When I go shopping I almost always hit a jackpot. A few weeks ago I did just that, hit the jackpot. My neighbor had tossed out wood paneling that was in their dinning room. It was full of nails but there was a lot of it. I wasn’t sure at first what to do with it. I thought maybe an art project for one of my classes. My semester was all planned out and I didn’t think I had a place to store it at school. When I started the studio space for myself I knew right away how to recycle this into the studio. The time spent removing at least 4 nails from each board was worth it.

On one side the wood panel’s had an out dated orange stain with grooves in each board. I was concerned that it will collect trash and I would be forever vacuuming it. If you flip it over it reveals a beautiful unfinished wood that was begging to be on the floors. I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough to cover the floor but I did and it is amazing. This is a picture of the unstained wood before we stained it.

I had a little bit left so I added it to the wall covering. The studio walls are 90 percent old doors, but there is a space between each door that has to be covered. I decided to add the left over flooring to the walls in different places. I started up from the floor and when I got to the middle section I added a very special gift. This wood sign was purchased with a gift card from one of my students. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. The quote is what sums up Blue Happy Living. “Do what makes you Oh so Happy” how perfect is that.

I’m excited to show you how the rest of the walls came together and what else I added to the walls. The floors turned out so amazing. I love them and all the imperfections make it all work together. This little studio was never meant to be perfect. Only a creative place that has lots of light, and that it is. I’m just giddy over the way it is coming together. I’m full of passionate ideas and can’t wait to work in this space. I’m looking forward to sharing with you more bits and pieces of the studio as we build up to the Big Reveal. Go out and have a Blue Happy Day!
