Rebuild

December 17, 2015

Sometimes when things are falling apart we tend to just sit back and let it happen. Not because we want to but because we are lost for direction. Have you ever walked into your home and thought where do I start on this mess.  It’s easy to walk away and turn your focus else where.

Time and time again I see people put furniture on the curb they feel isn’t usable anymore.  I agree sometimes there is furniture that can’t be fixed or repurposed.  For the most it can be and I’m going to prove it with this piece today.  I received a call from a friend of mine a few months back.  She had a table that she planned on redoing but no longer had the time.  She was tossing it out and wanted to know if I wanted it.  I stored it away in my storage of goodies.  A few weeks later on my way home from the gym a neighbor had tossed out what appeared to be a top to an old dresser.  It was great with 2 small drawers and great old hardware.  In the back of my car it went to be used another day.

As I come to the end of my master bedroom redo I need one last piece of furniture.  I needed a nightstand/desk for me to blog at in the evenings.  Every night my husband and I retire to the bedroom around 9.  He watches some weird show about bush people or hunting and I blog sitting on the edge of the bed.  This is my favorite part of the night because it’s just us no cell phones, no jobs and no pressure.  After I’m done blogging we always watch a show or two together then fall asleep.  I thought how great it would be to have a piece of furniture that could serve dual  purpose.
I went to my trusty little pile of furniture finds and dug out the old round table from my friend Jessica and the dresser top I found in someone’s trash.  I decided to make a piece that when finished would be the perfect place to blog.  And so the sidedesk was born.  I cut off the backside of the table, then braced the top to the base. I attached the old dresser top on the back edge of the table top. Added a few coats of black paint, sanding off the edges and added several coats of clear finish to protect it. I then had my sidedesk.  I’m so excited to start blogging from this spot in my bedroom.  I found and old wooden chair at a thrift store that was already painted a gray color.  It was perfect right down to the naturally worn edges.  The chair was $13 another thrift store deal!

All of the items used to make this sidedesk were intended to be tossed out.  Sometimes we need to look at what is going on in our lives and see how we can figure things to make it work.  Sometimes life can really be a big lemon but how you treat that lemon is what makes the difference.  If you let it sit you get a rotten mess, if you add sugar and water lemon aid but if you add sugar flour and a few more ingredients you get a sweet lemon cake.  I know you get the point don’t just except what is handed you give it all the right things and it will become a blessing.

I’m not sure what is going on in your life but my prayer for you is that you wake up tomorrow.  You see the day as a gift and wrap every moment in Blue.  Look up it fills the sky.  I hope you have a Blue Happy Day.
