Years ago I married a young service man. Yes my husband is a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Those years in the beginning of our marriage were lean and simple but I loved every moment.
Years have passed and we now have a full and enriched life with lots of memories. I wouldn’t change a thing. I never really thought about his status as a veteran until lately. At a young age he signed up and served his country before he was even 21. Off to Germany to be an Airman.
So many of our service men and women are young under the age 25. That is amazing to me that they are willing to protect our freedom at such a young age. I for one take for granted that we live, believe, and trust that our freedom will always be here. I just really don’t think about it much until I see something in the news that reminds me of how blessed we are to live in such a great country.
Yesterday Facebook was over loaded with pictures and stories about Veterans. I loved the support shown for the day and what it represented. Everyday I rise to go and teach at a school that is Christian based, I get to believe and worship God as I wish to, I love who I want and live where I wish all of this based on the fact that over the years many times, many men and women have fought for my rights.
In my sons jr. year at Wylie Prep our fantastic history teacher took the kids on the yearly trip to DC. My son was touched by the tome of the unknown soldier. He said it was moving to see how the people respected what was happening. I loved hearing him talk about it. Seeing freedom through the eyes of your young child can be so refreshing. I would encourage you to share with your young children our freedom story and how blessed we are to have it.
As yesterday came and went I looked back on my life in the beginning being married to a service man. As I said to me it seemed simple and lean. Today my heart is full of pride to be married to a Veteran. I so appreciate his time of service and what that means to our freedom. I applauded all the men and women who have served, are serving, and will serve to protect our rights.
For one moment think what if you couldn’t go to work tomorrow or church because you lived in a place that didn’t allow you to have choice? What if you couldn’t have a home or a car? What is you couldn’t vote? All questions that make you think.
We all have a great deal of gratitude for all service men and women. Please take the time to say a prayer and give thanks this season for all those that serve. God bless the Armed Forces.
