Plant Stand I Think Not

November 13, 2015

So I’m always looking for many different ways to reuse and double use items. This little plant stand is no exception. While at a garage sale in my neighborhood I saw a couple of rusty plants stands sitting by the trash cans. No one seemed to be looking at them so I decided to ask if they were for sale. This very nice lady with a puzzled look on her face said “I guess”. They were sitting there for the trash but she quickly asked me for $6 for both. Funny how she was tossing them out but when someone wanted them they suddenly had a value. Guess I should have waited and picked them up on trash day.

Like I said I wanted to find a new use for them other than a plant stand, because a green thumb I do not have. I decided to redo the rusty one first. I spent a good hour wire brushing as much rust as possible off so the primer would stick. I wiped it down to remove any dust left behind. This is an important step because the dust can cause the paint to change colors if they mix. Now dust free I applied the first very light coat of primer from a spray can. I applied 2 more light coats until it was fully covered letting it dry at least 30 minutes between coats.

Now  what color should it be? This is a great way to add a punch of color to any room. Make it bright red, teal or yellow so many colors to pick from. Spray paint has come a long way and now is in a variety of shades and tones. So I’m sure you are asking why I picked cream. I picked cream because I wanted it to be useable for anyone’s home as this little table will be in my December 5th sale. I added the cream color in light coats as I did the primer. It took a total of 4 light coats to get full coverage. It now has a very nice cover of the color.

Now it’s ready to show you how many things you could do with it. To me this is the fun part!

First let’s go to the bathroom with this little table and place it next to the bathtub with a basket or bowl  for bath supplies for your guest. You could even add rolled up wash clothes. What a great little surprise for your guest as they prepare for their day or evening.

Second place it next to a chair or sofa that might not have room for an end table so that you have a place for a drink. What a great place to have morning coffee and a muffin. It would even serve great in a guest room next to a chair.

Third you could set it next to your front door during the holidays with a beautiful holiday basket on top. In the basket you could place small gift and holiday treats for all  that visit  your front door.  Bet you thought I would forget Christmas Friday project, didn’t you? Nope this is a great Christmas project for all your loved ones.

There are so many ways to use this little table. It is no longer just a plant stand. I love to remake things, give them new life and purpose. This little table was headed for the landfill. I simple asked about it at a garage sale and saved it. I can’t wait until you see the other plant stand. Just a hint it will shine very bright. It will also be at the December sale.

Look around I’m sure you have something in your home that you could repurpose. I promise if you do you will get that Blue Happy Fever. It’s very contagious!
